The pale neon at work musta died- he was not out of shape so prob. not neon tetra disease?- came in today to check on him and he's vanished... I'll repeat fellow residents;

Clown loach x 1- again, not at my choice!
5 penguin fish
a shoal of 4 remaining neons (diamond)
3 bronze corys- 1 1/2 inches at the moment
1 golden eyed dwarf cichlid (temporary measure, juvenile- smaller than penguin fish at present).

Any that could have eaten him overnight?

I can't see him in plants and he's not floating on the surface.

I'm just waiting to find out if anyone has already disposed of him before I rip the tank to bits, he must be found today as it is going to be the weekend and he will pollute the tank if left.

Any hints and tips?

I had an albino rainbow fish which I put into a tank 3 weeks ago andthat was the last I ever seen of him.Never found a trace.I asked my lfs owner and he said that the other fish would totally devour a dead body.
They must have done a good job because I checked water stats for a few days and there was no difference.
Hope you find it but dont be surprised if you dont
-_-

i cant find my tiger barbs.Since i rescued a shark ve had 6 dissapear.I only have 3 left now

Check the filter intakes, behind the heater and in any plants.

Also check INSIDE your filter in case any non-eaten bits got sucked in, you don't want the body fouling your water. Most times other fish will eat the fins and soft bits first and leave the head.

They eat dead fish suprisingly quickly, I had rearranged some rocks and found the almost completely gone body of a tetra that had been alive that morning, I can only assume the betta had been eating it.

Depending on your filter, it could be inside there! We had one of the hang on back power filters and a couple of neons ended up inside of it. As for who could have possible eaten it, any of the fish with a mouth larger than it could have swallowed it up. If it died, they all could have eaten on it.

Speaking of tiger barbs, I had a small pictus catfish eat one of them one time. You could see the shape of the barb in it's body! I don't know how it swallowed him.

Any dead fish in my main tank wont last long  if anything dies, there's little chance of me ever seeing a body - unless it happened within an hour or so.
