So I have a twenty gallon freshwater tank home to a small group of guppies
I am wandering if anyone has any suggestions for a fish or aquatic animal that is good at removing algae and dead plant matter, and is kinda low maintenance
(Ps: I don’t like plecos)

I would have to suggest Panda Garra but I've never had with guppies. Since Pandas are VERY active it is possible that they could cause some stress to the guppies. If you look at the beasties don't get just 1 as then it would pester the guppies just due to needing to interact. While hyper active they are actually quite peaceful critters.

Amano shrimp are absolute champs when it comes to hair algae (a group of 6 adults completely cleared my 8gal of algae within about 2 weeks), and they'll also scavenge uneaten food. Snails are probably your best option when it comes to eating dead plant matter and detritus, and there are some absolutely gorgeous species to choose from, including ones that don't breed out of control. Both shrimp and snails will get along perfectly fine with guppies with no risk to either party, so that would be my recommendation.
And I'm sure you know this, but it's important to remember that while it's always good to have a clean-up crew, no animal can replace regular water changes and gravel vacs :)
