I have a little 40 litre tank in which there are currently 5 Panda corys and 5 cardinal tetras (and 1 neon)

The cardinals are suffering from stress induced disease at the moment but I'm hoping they will pull through and am cheering myself up by planning to buy new fish :D Always works a treat!

In a couple of weeks time, when the tank is healthy again, I'd like to add two small fish that will use the upper parts of the tank. I know some of you will think this is overstocked - but that's why I'm looking for small fish and I'm quite happy with the maintenance involved. I also have five other tanks and am quite prepared to get bigger tanks at a later date. (Oh, the joys of being single and having a house to yourself :p )

I already have honey gouramis - in another tank

I already have sparkling gouramis - they were the ones that caused the stress to the cardinals in the first place :grr: - they too are now in another tank with companions they can't bully.

I went into my lfs today and saw some lovely little dwarf neon rainbows. They had a label on the tank saying best kept in pairs. Is this true?? Methinks they may be shoaling fish.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks

blue neon rainbows are to big and need a big tank, what i find with them is when there young there very dull and nobody buys them but when they are adults the are really pretty with bright red fins and a silvery body! :p i was gonna suggest honey gouramis but u already said!! maybe hatchetfish? i dont know though id wait for more opinions! :good:

hatchetfish are shoaling fish, i'd say a honey gourami even though you've already said it.

:good:

Marbled Hatchetfish as they are smaller than Silvers. Might be a bit hard to find though. Sometimes they are on sale and then you might not see them for several months. Havnt seen any in ages. Also, Dwarf Pencilfish, peaceful and can look beautiful. Some Harlequins perhaps. Rummy-Noses are very nice too.

I think I'd probably need more than two of those, wouldn't I?

I've been recommended to have dwarf pencilfish before - but I've never seen any around Nottingham (and I visit 5 or 6 lfs's)

haha i live in nottingham to!! have you tried bardills aquatic centre Majjie, iv seen hatchetfish in there!

Hey tetra-man :D Bardills is my most local lfs - it's where I went today and saw the rainbows. I've seen hatchet fish in there before, I think - but not today

i went therer 2 days ago, probably bump into u and wouldnt know! yeh the rainbows near the desk! saw them..very pretty!

Yeah - Wharf Aquatics is great. I got some chain loaches from there recently - but it's quite a way from Nottingham - 30 mins up the M1
