any one used this product?

Hi...I bought a similar product where you cut a one liter soda bottle and attach it to a screw on mount that connects to an air pump. You add a packet of brine shrimp eggs that are premixed with salt, adjust the pH to 8 and then bubble it for 1-2 days next to a 60 watt bulb. It does grow the brine shrimp but they are barely visible to the eye. When you siphon them off, you are left with a pinkish/brown paste. I think the misconception, at least what I had, was that you end up with ' good size' brine shrimp to feed your big fish. Not the case, In fact, you'd have to grow them in an algae tank to get them to the size that you can buy them at the store or frozen (see San Francisco Bay Brand's website to see how this is done). The baby brines are supposedly excellent for fry. Not sure if the big guys can get enough of these little things in....any other opinions out there? I tried this once....then headed to the lfs to get either the live grown or frozen. SH

I thought about buying that thing the last time I was in petsmart, it has an easy system for seperating out the hatched shrimp.

ive used one..i thought it was more hassel than it was worth. can be a mess! i wouldnt recommend

I have one-bought it at petsmart too. I thought $8.xx was cheap enough and I didn't want to mess with soda bottles and all. My kids had fun with it and we had baby brine shrimp in about 12 hours, maybe less. You can't grow them in it though, and if you try it I would recommend checking out bettacave (I think) on how to modify this to reduce eggshells in your bbs collection cup.

edit: it wasn't bettacave-it was this site.

Gale...good reminder. When the eggs hatch, the shells float to the surface. These can not be digested and could obstruct the GI tract of fish. THe have to be siphoned off. SH
