My Dragon Goby A.K.A Ray Charles (appropriately named since he's all but blind) has out grown his 30 long and is ready for a big boy aquarium. I recently acquired a 60 gallon frag tank 48"w x 24"d x 12" h. I figured this would be a perfect tank for him, since dragons don't require much vertical room. The tank has a built in overflow and I will be running a sump for filtration. Here comes the question. Is anyone out there skimming their brackish tanks? I currently run his SG between 1.008 and 1.011 to mimic the natural salinity changes in his environment.
I have an extra skimmer laying around that would work great for that size tank. I just didn't know if that SG is high enough to get any skimming action.

Skimmers work from about SG 1.010 upwards, but it does depend on the skimmer. Essentially skimming becomes more difficult the lower the salinity below normal marine, so to get the same results you need to increase the efficiency of the skimmer. So the best thing to do is try out the skimmer you've got and see what happens!

Cheers, Neale

Thanks for the reply. How does one go about increasing the efficiency of the skimmer?
