I'll start off with the fact that I am pretty new at this, we just got our first tank at christmas. The other day a friend asked if I wanted his betta that he had been keeping in a vase so I said yes knowing I could find him a good home. After doing a little research my tank seemed like it would work fine for the little guy so I put him in there. The next morning I was missing a clown loach. My 3 year old was in there and I could see water on the table so I know she had been playing in the tank so I just figured she had seen Finding Nemo one too many times and set him free. Well this morning (the second morning with the betta) I noticed my other Clown Loach is missing and I know my 3 year old is not guilty this time. All my other fish have gotten along very good till now so I find it unlikely one ofthem is the culpret. Is it possible the betta had a midnight snack on a fish its own size? If not where are my Clown Loaches?

Years ago I had clown loaches in a 3ft tank (which also had a betta in), one disappeared, couldn't figure out where it had gone, looked all around the tank to see if we could see him, no luck.

It was only when moving the tank around that I found him, got himself trapped in a large shell and died - you might want to check that there is no where that they have gotten trapped, as I would have thought you would have found some sort of remains of them if they had been eated, but I may be wrong.

Groovey I found them. When she was playing in the tank she knocked over a tower that is hollow on the bottom. I looked in there a couple of times and didn't see them but this time I deceided to remove everything an clean it up as I am having some alge problems right now. well sure enough upon very close examination they were stuck inside. Took a few taps on the side of the tank to shake em loose but I got the little bugers outta there.

I lost a male betta. He had worked his way under a filter and got stuck. Fortunately, I pulled the filter up as that was the last place to look, and he was still alive. I took out the filter and did water changes instead. I am setting up two new tanks using the same type of filters, but have them secured so that the fish cannot get under them.
