This poor little fella arrived on my doorstep last week, I know nothing of how he obtained these injuries, at first I suspected heater burn, but he is getting worse. This is what he looked like last week.

6 days of daily wc and myxazin has made the redness of the wound go down but these two large holes have appeared.

He is eating but not alot and seems fine in himself, no laboured breathing, his poop is a little stringy but with not eating much it is expected. I am going to change meds to melafix as I usually get good results with it, but I have no idea what is causing these holes, it is as if something is eating away at him.

Water stats
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
ph 6.8

but what the stats were in his previous tank I have no idea. Any other ideas of what could have caused this I would be greatful.

It could be columnaris, for example…

Melafix will not do anything positive, whatever the disease is, it is only tea tree oil, which has a very finite ability to kill bacteria. You would probably be better off increasing water changes.

Edit: are you in the US? Try a combination of the two Maracyns maybe?

It looks a little like an ulcer but that's difficult to treat. If it is it will be shedding bacteria into the water that will infect the rest of your fish.

Treatment can affect your filter

The fish is on its own in one of my hospital tanks.

What's the water hardness? It might help the wounds heal if you increase it (but then it's more likely that there will be a secondary infection).

That looks nasty! In the first pic, the holes are there, just very small. It looks painful in the second pic. I'd be doing lots of water changes. Maybe some strong bacterial meds. I'm just guessing. I've kept fish for more years than I like to admit and I haven't had to use many meds.

I agree with Kat on this it looks like columnaris, I have lost a Betta to this recently very quickly, he was dead 2 days after i spotted it :(

Think i was told to use Myzaxin
