i have had this fish for just over a month and thought it was normal, but after seeing some pics of others i guess its not!
his two front fin things are thick and an orangy colour. they have been like this since i got him, they are no different now to last month, hence why ive never thought something was wrong!

I would go to the right part of the forum and check if its normal for his fins to be like that.

it is completely normal for a male hoplosternum catfish. The boys have the thick orange pectoral fin spine. The girls have a thin normal coloured one. It's nothing to worry about.

hi spishkey.. yes as colin says that normal, i have one in one of my tanks :) he is a really funny fish, when i do a WC he tries to get into the hose pipe to play in the cold water!!
i heard the oscars are having a few behaviour issues at the moment, i really hope it was/is mating ,as it would be awful to have to sepaerate them, especially after what they have been through together, i cant advise on it tho, as Jambo wont tolerate another oscar in the tank..good luck.
