About a week and a half ago I lost a fish to unknown reasons. Now, with two other sick fish, I would like to try and figure out just what's going on.

About three days ago one of my male guppies started to spend most of his time lying on the bottom of the tank. Yesterday, one of my females starting doing the same thing. It looks like they're gasping, but they're not at the top of the water. They're on the bottom.

My males' fins are looking a bit nipped, and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I can't see any white spots.

This is a cycled 20G tank with 8 guppies and 4 corys.

Thanks for any help.

Have you tested for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph recently?
Is your water from a well? How much and how often do you do water changes. How long have you had the fish? What temperature is the tank? What ratio of male to female guppies?

Phew :)

Yes, I've tested. Everything is normal.

I do 10-25% Water changes once a week (depends on how much water I have made at the time). I have 3 males and 5 females. It was 6 females, but one recently died. I know I need to add afew more females, but I don't want to add any more fish until this is cleared up.

Temp stays between 78 and 81F. All depends on how how it gets during the day.

I've had the fish for almost two months.

Resting to one side on the bottom of the tank, plus laboured breathing is a bacterial infection, plus livebearers like guppys are prone to bacterial finrot, any red streaking in the tail, you will need a bacterial med, a few water changes and abit more maintanance on the tank is this weather as bacteria multiplys so fast in high temps.
What do you feed the fish.

If all you ahve is guppies then you could try tonic salt such as aqualibrium which is made for livebearers.

One of my females just died.

There are no red streaks, or anything. They look completely normal. Though, it does seem two of my males are losing some of their color.

I feed flake, and occasionaly vegitables when I can. The guppies also eat the algae tablets I feed the corys.

I would add a bacterial med fast, good luck, if in uk something like waterlife myxazin.

Thanks. I'll try to get to the LFS as soon as I can in the morning. Every place is closed now, and I didn't have a ride earlier today.

Hopefully every thing will work out okay.

Sorry your in the US maracyn one and two, hows the fish.

I lost another two fish today. We have diagnosed this as dropsy, and bought some medicine that is said to treat it, but no results yet. I also bought some aquaruim salt, but since I have corys, I can't use it.

Hopefully, I won't lose any more fish.

Once scales stick out that usually it organ failure, just hope you caught it in time, the effected fish you could try a epson salt bath it helps draw the fluids out.
