Hope You don't mind me post this here, but Im getting a little desperate.

I have recently had some problems with my fish and had a bout of HITH. Consequently I have lost 2 discus and am now trying to save 2 Angels. They are in a Hospital tank now and have just completed a course of eSHa Heximita (3-days).

One of my Angels have now got like a red wart or ulcer on its tail fin, and there both not eating. All water params are good and I don't know what to do next!

Here are my previous posts on the subject.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your having a rough time of it of late.

My guess would be that the ulcer like wounds on the fishes tail are some kind of secondary infection brought on by the fishes weakened immune system, i would advise treating with melafix for the next few days, melafix is a 100% natural remedy and is safe to use with other medications.

With your fish not eating have you tried live foods? Flakes arent the best of foods to use at any time and when fish are sick it is always more advisable to use live foods. I would suggest feeding some live daphnia (water fleas) or bloodworm, i have seen fish that have been at deaths door perk up and feed at the sight of daphnia.

Keep up with the water changes add melafix and feed live foods and your fish should pull through.

Thanks CFC, I can always rely on you for some good advice! I will get the melafix ASAP, and try to get live food (usually a little scarce, but with a bit of luck!). I dont usually feed my fish flakes, they usually live of a diet of Cichlid Pelets (red things) Frozen Bloodworm and sometimes beefheart. But the just won't touch any of it :/ only had success with flakes.

But Ill try some live stuff like you say.

P.S tonight they the male has eaten a little, but then went back to chewing it up and spitting it back out. After the water change he must of started getting a little horny ;) as he began to peck at the female as if he was wanting it B)

Thanks again

JUst to give you an update! Im using the melafix, and have fed with live food. They still never seemed that interested :(

my Male angel started getting, like tiny bubbles stuck together coming off his side in stringy blobs (if you know what I mean?). Anyone know what this is now? I feel like giving up

I would start treatment with metronodazole for the eating problem, as well as maracyn & maracynII for the skin problem. Melafix is a great starting point, I consider it one of the best due to it being made of all natural ingredients. If this is not working, I think it is time to try something a bit stronger.

Think of it like this, chicken soup is great for a cold, all natural, right? But if your cold develops into pnemonia, you probably need some antibiotics in addition to the chicken soup. Sounds to me like your fish are past the soup stage.

Thanks Tolak,

I think Ill try it, the bubble stuff seems to be gone now, I put in some frozen blood worm and the male rushed to it and gulped a mouth full, but then just spat it back out :(

I just noticed tonight that my rams are doing the same thing :X Seems like this mystery bug I have is only related to cichlids? All water params still perfect, with regular water changes taking place.

God this is frustrating

I put 300 mg. metro in a 10 gallon tank when one of my angels starts doing the no eat thing. It's caused by an intestinal protizoan that is commonly found in cichlids, usually found in small quantities in their intestines, but sometimes it gets out of hand.

Along with meds in the water, i sprinkle a bit on some frozen brine shrimp, as well as kick the temp up to 90F. About half a pea size piece of frozen b.s. with just a little dusting of metro gets the meds right to the problem. Angels can handle quite high a temp, I've had them in the mid 90's (oops! dang cheap heater!) a couple of times with no ill effect.

One of the fish treated this way is the female of a pair of breeders. She's paid for herself along with all her equipment so far, she's now working on paying for the fry tanks. Wish all my fish worked out that way!

Hello again, here's another update.

My female Angel died a couple of days ago :/ so no all I have is my Male angel fish. Hes still going, and although I can't seem to get any metronodazole from anywhere I did get Aquarium Treatment No 9 Anti Internal Bacteria. He has just about completed a full cycle of treatment but still no sign of progress. He just sit in the corner of the hospital tank lying on his side.

My theory is that his immune system is completly destroyed and sadly I don't think there will be any saving him  Im gutted because he was the first fish I bought when I started my tank 4yrs ago.

I am now wandering whether I should end it all for him, to stop his suffering. What are your opinions?

So sorry to read of your problems. If the fish is definitely not going to make it....I would end it for him......I hate to watch a fish suffer when there is no hope.
Again........so sad!! But good luck for the future.xx.

Well just to say thank you to all who have offered their help and advice over the last few weeks. Unfortunately I have been unsuccessfull in saving any of my fish. I have finally come to the decision that it would be best to put my male Angel fish down.

He is now in 5l of water mixed with a few drops of Clove Oil. I expect him to be gone in about an hour :byebye: But I know its for the best!

Thanks again to all.
