I have some smooth pebble type stones - the biggest is about 4"x3"x2". Would anubias attach to it or would it be too smooth for the roots to be able to grip? I do have bogwood as well, should I just skip the stones completely and attach to the wood?

What about moss, would that attach to the stones if given enough time, or again should I not bother and just attach to the wood?

Sorry, just pondering... :/

When I first planted my tank I tried tying plants down to the smooth river rock I had in there. They never really took to the rock since it was too smooth.

You could always glue it with some superglue (cyanoacrylate) then it hasn't got any choice in the matter :p

No, superglue is ok. Just dry the plant roots and rock as much as possible before gluing and let it set for a few. You can run it under tap water to make sure the glue has cured and then put it back in your tank.

Really? I'd have thought that with the harmful irritant stickers plastered all over it that it would have been a big no-no in a fish tank...

Well, they do say you learn something new everyday!

Cool! :) pretty sure I've got some superglue in a cupboard somewhere. Now I just need some moss to stick on the rocks!

If you don't want to use superglue or don't have any then making grooves in the rocks to help the anubis attach is easy or even drilling a few holes to pock some routes through and putting the fishing line or cotton through them to attach it. You can keep the fishing line on and not worry anyways or you can use cotton that will in the dissolve but the plant should take route to the rocks if you put grooves into them or similar etc.

I tried the whole moss things on slate using the fishing line and never got a result I liked plus your fixed to the shape that the rock is so I am trying some stainless steel with netting over to make some moss carpets and they can be cut to any shape you like then as well to cover the tank. you could even use the nets over the bog wood and glue the edges or similar on there.

I don't have any superglue hense all my slightly different methods.

Kind Regards,

Adam

For the price of superglue to the time and hassle of drilling rocks I think the superglue at only a couple bucks for a tube is easier for most people. =)

Yeah I gathered as much just I have a hand drill good enough for the job and lack of money for superglue so the 30mins making the pieces of slate right for the plants didn't seem so bad for what I wanted.
