Hi, I planted two anubias nana plants onto a piece of bogwood about four weeks ago. They look to be in good condition and thriving well, but do not appear to have attatched themselves to the bogwood yet, and still need to be secured. I'm just wondering how long it can take before they attatch themselves roughly as this is my first experience of live plants and I've no idea how long it could take.

Anubias is not a true aquatic plant and as such it grows quite slowly underwater. It can take a month or more before it is able to hold itself to the wood. Most people tie it on or use a rubber band.

Thanks for the reply Colin. I have got them secured with elastic bands but they do not appear to be holding onto the wood themselves yet, so I guess it will happen in their own time!

it will take time. They eventually develop fine dark hairy roots that gradually stick to the wood. Good light and some aquarium plant fertiliser will help speed things along a bit :)

i have fine dark roots for my java fern but my anubias has large green/white roots that are 4x the size of the java fern roots.

you might be right there Nick. It's been a while since I seen Anubias :)

Nick's right,white/green roots. You're best just to tie it on with fishing line (can't see it),or thread and forget about ever taking it off.

Thanks Guys, I think I will replace the elastic bands with fishing line in that case and leave it in place.
