Hey all, started my first foray into plant keeping earlier this week and have some more questions. Went with some Anubias Nana for my first plants since everyone claims they're hard to kill :). I've decided that for the time being CO2 is not something I'm going to look to do right now as I have a lower light tank (1.8WPG) that I'm still learning with. Also, while I've read the EI article, that too is a little big above my head for the time being so I'm merely treating with some Seachem Flourish (as I've heard good thigns about it) along with a weekly 50% water change and re-addition of the fert.

My real question though is regarding the Airstone I currently run. Is that something I should be removing from my non-CO2 lightly planted tank? Is it in some way starving my plants of CO2? If so, will I need to think about raising my number of plants (currently 1/8-1/4 substrate covered) to provide oxygen for my fish?

Keep in mind, I dont have dreams of hugely aquascaped tanks yet, just trying to get my feet wet as it were with plants :)

Tank is a 20 tall with an Eheim HOB filter

hmmm with 1.8 WPG over a 20 gal i dont think co2 will be a big help though :)

i wouldn't worry too much about the airstone dissipating all the c02 because you have a hob filter :) the hob will dissipate even more :) but if your planning to plant lightly only choose your plants wisely and anubias IMO is a wise decision... be carefull though beacuse algae might start forming on your anubias :) fertilizing via the EI is not that hard really :) the time will come and you will try it if you go down the planted tank road :)
