OMG I went to lift the lid of my tank this afternoon and the ridges around the top of the glass were full of scurrying ants. There was also a huge ball of ants floating on the water's surface. We haven't seen any in the house. They must go there for heat and light. I scooted a lot in to the water and the fish tried some but didn't like them, spat them out. Anyone else had them?

ew! iv never heard of ants being in the aquarium ... urgh i hate them lol id scream if they got in mine lol x
sorry cant help you out on this one, but good luck with it :good:

I've got ants too! (well we did until 5 min ago when they got hoovered!) I can only think that they are attracted to stray bits of food that stick to the rim.

My Oscars follow them along the tank and eat any that fall in the water!

The little small ants are usually in search of water. It seems we have them every few years in the summer (got them this year again). They will go to any crumbs left around but I usually see them in the sink where there are droplets of water standing or even in the dishwasher. So finding them in the tank would most likely mean they are in search of water also.

Surely thay all have to climb the glass sides to get in there and I've never seen any climbing up. Maybe round the back? Looked today and they seem to have vanished in to thin air!

They can come up most anywhere but, yes, they would have to climb the glass. They usually seem to work in corners so may be going up the corner of the tank where they are less noticable because of the joint.

i feed the ants to my fish when they come in the kitchen i get hubby or kids to scoup them up and the fish have a feed
