My 20 gal is getting treated with antibiotics as a preventitive measure because I've had two fish sick with suspected bacterial infections. When I noticed the first sick fish, I took out my backup spounge and sent the tank into a mini cycle, which has now resolved.

Here is my dilemma - Yesterday, my 20 gal experienced a bacterial bloom - the water is murky white. I have held off on water changes to this point because of being in the middle of the antibiotics, but since the second fish took a turn for the worse, I really want to be able to give all my fish a visual check up.

Is there anyway I can do a water change wihile doing antibiotics? I don't want to lower the dose in any way shape or form because of two recent deaths.

So you experienced a bacterial bloom while treating with antibiotics? :p That sounds wrong... No, seriously, are you sure the white color isn't directly because of the meds.? They are often a milky white.

If you have to do a water change, do it and then just replace the dosage for the amount of water you took out. There's no other way realy (unless you do a 100% water change plus carbon and then re-dosed altogether). However, watch it if you have any fish in there that are sensitive to the meds.

Its definately not from the meds. I have a fish in my hospital tank with an infected sore, and he is getting the same meds and his water is still very clear.

I believe it is a bacterial bloom because how fast it showed up and the fact the water looks white and almost like there is clouds in there. The antibiotics i am using don't harm the beneficial bacteria, so thats possibly why?

With the just redose for whatever I take out theory, I am using Maracyn and Maracyn 2, which have me disolving one tablet per ten gallons every day for 5 days. So I have no idea how much I would be taking out.

Well if you're taking out say 5 gallons (I have no clue what size tank it is so bear with me) then that's the equivalent of half a tablet. I used 5 simply because the maths is easier and it's late. But you get the picture....I hope. :look:
Hugs,
P.
P.S:I wouldn't put more then the equivalent of one days worth dosage or you could end up putting in a massive overdose and doing more damage then good. -_-
