Hi all :)

Ok so after 1 week I've grown impatient of waiting for my 300L tank to do a standard fishless cycle, and I want to grab some of the filter sponges from the internal filter on my 60L tank and shove them in ot speed things along :)
The reason I haven't done this before is because the small aquarium snails in my 60L tank seem to think that the internal filter is some kind of breeding trap for them, and the sponges often have small snails and/or eggs on or in them. and I didn't want to migrate this problem over into the large external filter on the 300L tank.
I have some 'Anti-Snail' liquid, (can't remember the name off hand), that can either be added to an aquarium over the course of a week, or can also be made into a 'bath' for new plants etc to be put through before going into a tank. It does say that is doesn't affect biological filters but I wanted to check thoughts here. Do you think it would be ok for me to soak my filter sponge in an anti-snail bath before putting the sponge into the new filter, or will this cause problems, (either by killing the bacteria or by washing it off? I don't know how well the bacteria 'sticks' to the sponges?)

squeeze the filter media, and crush any snails that are in there, i would not use any chemicals. i soaked mine in a concentrated salt soloution and then re cycled the filter, but you cannot do this. just crush the critters.

Don't crush them !!! all you will do is release more eggs and as the snails decompose thay will make ammonia

If your unsure about your media don't use it have a look in the sticky in the beginners section as theres with people who will donate media
