Hi, I was wondering if these algae treatment products work?. Do they have have any negative affects on stock in the aquarium?.

I ask because since moving house a few weeks ago, I have started to get a bad case of "green water", it really doesn't look very appealing. I have been doing water changes every 2-3 days of around 40-50% but it seems to develop quicker than I can treat it.

The aquarium was established for over three months before moving house, and was crystal clear. It currently is no where near any windows, and I have been cutting the light off for the best part of the day, and only a few hours of an evening.

The current water parameters are as follows;

AM: 0.0ppm
nI: 0.0ppm
nA: 5ppm
pH: 7.2

My next resort was to try a product like this. Has anybody had any success with products like that before?.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may be able to give.

Michael.

Most products that destroy algae also destroy your bacterial filter, so you will be cycling your tank again.

I tried an anti-algea treatment, and unfortunately it had absolutely no effect whatsoever. I think the best course of action is simply regular cleaning and tank maintenance - well, it is in my case anyway.

I have used anti-algae treatment... I think it was from the company Jungle. Anyway, it did reduce algae. It also makes the algae weaker and easier to scrape off. It made some of my plants a bit brown, though. It was plant safe, too. Just be careful not to overdose it or your plants will suffer. :(

I would only use it as a last resort, I once lost my whole tank of fish due to an algae bloom and me trying to get rid of it with chemicals. (Had no effect on the algae either :grr: )

I tried an anti-algae treatment to get rid of hair algae and it had no effect whatsoever! In the end we fished out whatever algae we could and after a week it had all gone.
