i was wondering if it would be efficient or a waste to hook my co2 line directly into my lift tubes on my aquaclear or is this really dumb to do with a hob? thanks

right now im still using a hob with my planted tank, its not really stupid but HOB's do tend to diffuse co2 too much, a trick you could do is block the hob downpour using a coarse (not fine) piece of foam, this pads the surface agitation caused by the hob. You could then feed the co2 into the hob, the impeller would grind the co2 bubbles to bits by forcing it to mix with the water. A good practice is to use a airstone before feeding it into the hob intake, so the bubbles come in smaller sizes and not in large burps.

You could, but there are a couple things to think about:

1) It'll be sort of noisy because the bubbles will be cut up by the impeller which will cause noice.
2) Because of this, if you have too many bubbles at once, you might break your filter. I haven't heard of this happening, but I'm sure it has, since I've heard that it can break it.

It's a pretty efficient way of dissolving c02 but the noise factor, and chance of breaking the filter isn't going to be a chance that I would take.

yup the noise i forgot about the noise :) if your going to try this make sure you use a fine airstone... this minimizes the chace of a large air bubble occuring near the HOB impeller but IovaykInD is right, it is a bit risky :) but not too much i should say :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^thank yous both,much appreciated^^^^^^^^:)
