I had a similar topic to this a while ago, but it was for a 5.5 gallon which has less issues than a 10 gallon, so I apologize for the redundancy.
I just finished dividing a 10 gallon into three with DIY plexiglass dividers (boy...were those fun...lol...so many darn holes to drill!!) I've seen people's posts saying that the best way to filter is to redirect the output to one end and the intake to another end which causes the water to flow through the whole tank...and that sounds like such a great concept...but how in the world is that actually done? Or is it easier just to get 3 sponge filters/3 mini filters of some sort? Or an undergravel? Ahh I'm sorry, I just didnt realize how many decisions there were!

So, I guess what I'm asking is, what has worked best for those of you who have divided tanks? What do you think gives the most even filtration without making one fish have to put up with the large current caused by filtering so much water? Thanks in advance!

Hiya
We have three divided tanks -

1. 9 gallons divided into 3 - has sponge filters in the 2 end sections.
2. 9 gallons divided into 2 - has 1 sponge filter tight against the divider.
3. 9 gallons divided into 2 - as above

I have aimed the outlets towards the dividers in all of them

All working well:)

i have 2 divided tanks

16 gal divided into 5 has a fluval 204 external filter with the intake tube in one end and the output (spraybar) positioned to spray against the glass in the opposite end

9 gal divided into 3 has an eheim aquaball 2208 internal filter in one end. the output on the aquaballs is round so i wedged it into a tube (taken off a gravel vacuum) and ran the tube over the top of the dividers to the other end of the tank. then i shoved that end the other half of the fluval spraybar attachment (it comes with 2 tubes to make it stretch further) and positioned it to spray against the glass.

creates a great flow through and mean the temp stays nice and even throughout the tank too (with only one heater in each tank)

i have 4 male in a divided ten gallon,<us> i used the plastic backing for cross stitch forms , you can find then at any craft store,, has millions of tiny little squares, and lets water and heat threw nicely, with suction cups on the side s to hold it in place and the bottom i sunk into the sand, i have a 10 gal wisper in tank filter which i put sideways poimnting right at the next section over, water flows gently threw all 4 sections, and i placed the heater on the opposite side, so the water from the filter flows over the top then gets sucked back to the filter on the bottom, now heater by the heater,, works nice :good:
