with my new tank set up now it need stocking up and i have taken a liking to 2 diff kinds of cichlids either the east euro ram think its the same as german ram and the blue dolphin ram both are said to be fine in community tanks and are peacefull fish. just wondered if any of them would be better than the other and any + and - about the fish???

The blue rams pack more colour than any other rams. You may want to choose the golden variety. They're colourful. Heres what a pair of blue rams look like.

Never heard of a blue dolphin ram.
Anyway.. a pair is best. See if there are 2 at the LFS that get on really well and get them. If not then buy 6 and wait for 2 to pair off. Take back the 4.
I wouldn't even try with German Rams if you don't have soft water. They waste away so quickly in hard water it's not worth bothering, believe me by experience :( They will eat flake, pellets and readily take frozen foods. The golden variety is just a different colour morph. Exactly the same fish just different colour :)

well the place i get my fish from i have never seen any german blue rams there before but i may be mistaken but ime sure they will be able to get in a pair for me and they should be gd fish like everything else they stock. water where i live is good not had any problems with it so a pair should be fine in my community tank

When buying some rams, pick the best 6 you see. Get those. Or best 4 if you want. Wait till some pair up and take the res back. Easiest way. I dont think you fill find many shops selling breeding pairs of rams.

ok thanks for all the help will keep in mind buying 4 or 6 and keeping a pairing couple. will update you all when i get the fish...thanks

whats the diff with it being a ram or not a ram then is it somethin to do with looks??? i got the name from an online fish sales website (not buying from there dont panic i like to see the fish i buy) so i guess they must have it wrong but they were deffo the ones i was looking for?? woudl either the german blue ram or the blue dolphin be ok for my tank then?? what size do the blue dolphins get to??

or could i buy both will they be compatible??

STAY AWAY FROM BLUE DOLPHINS!!!!!! They are african cichlids and will kill the other fish, rule the roost and grow to 9-10". They require special tanks dedicated to just afrcian cichlid. Careful planning there.

ooo gd job i done my research before then thanks for telling me. think ime gunna get 4 blue rams there is some at my lfs in bury for £4.95 each but they are only about an inch long so still young which i guess is good and look in top condition only trouble is there is about 30 in a 2 foot tank and its hard to see paired up couples so could be hard getting 2 pair (male and female)

just editing i have rang my normall fish supplier and they have a load in so am going there instead now as i know they will be gd fish.
