Hi everyboby,

Total newbie here, quick brief is I have always wanted to keep fish. I finally got round to ordering a 54x15x24 inch tank with cabinet & hood built to suit. Was thinking of running a 2128 Freshwater Eheim thermo external.

Great site, learning lots of things but still plenty of research to do.

Can't wait to get going.

Welcome and Good luck, any ideas of what type of tank setup? Community? Cichlid? etc.

Thank you for the welcome. It is going to be community set up. Going to cycle with 6 or so Molly's, & then introduce gradually 5 or 6 Silver Dollar & Bala Shark. I think I prefer the mid to larger fish. But I am getting mixed messages on the 'potential size' of some of these species. Silver Dollar = 5 to 6 inch? & Bala Shark = upto 12 inches.

you should think about doing a fishless cycle when i started last year i cycled with sailfin mollies and they died in 2 weeks!ask me if you need anything!

Hi germansheperdlver,

Thank you for the welcome, I have read lots of threads since & it seems doing the fishless cycle is best. It was because 3 seperate LFS told me to use 'Hardy molly's'. I asked if they would all be ok & they said yes.

Saying that they where old school, so they just probably said what they knew best.

Any basic tips you have for the fishless cycle would be appreciated
