I was thinking of getting african cichlids but am now leaning towards new world cichlids. So far i have looked at the sverums, firemouth, and blue acara would these get along with silver dollars in a 75 gallon tank?

Those are fairly peaceful cichlids... though the 75 gallon in your signature looks fairly well stocked. I wouldn't add these big guys.

If just with the SD's, one individual of two of those mentioned should get along just fine (e.g. one severum and one firemouth). The trouble with two individuals of the same species is that if they don't pair up, they'll be mean to each other... and if they do pair up, they can be mean to everything else in the tank.

If you are planning on stocking another 75G tank then a stocking like the one below should be fine.

1 Severum
1 Firemouth
1 Blue Acara
4 Silver Dollars
1 pleco or Birchir

what about clown loaches? are their any other cichlids i could add, key holes?

I agree with both Ryan and Davo.... for your current 75, the two sevs alone will outgrow the 75... so watch for the future if you plan on keeping this tank as is. The sevs will most likely start getting in territorial disputes and other fish in the tank could get hurt through collatoral damage.

With Davo's suggestion, I would cut out the FM and add two or three more sd's, but that is me as I like sd's. I have a shoal of 6 in my 125 and think they add tons of movement and personality as they will attack food like their pirannha cousins. quite cool to watch :good:

clown loaches would be ok,
Keyholes tend to be much smaller than your other chosen cichlids especially the Sev and may be subject to some aggression, A festivum or Geophagus may be a better option

I have been reading your posts and I think I have found a nice combination for a new 75 gallon. correct me if im wrong.

1xfiremouth
1xBlue acara
1xseverum
4xSilver Dollars
2xEartheaters
2xClown Loaches or 1xbichir of some sort(need to research)

My mom is nagging me to get bala sharks or somthin similar would those fit? if not somthing smaller yet similar?

Ox, i love SD's as well I have 2 already and they are very fun to watch but i would like alot of variety and like the firemouths aswell.

That's probably pushing the "happy" capacity. Bala's get huge. Clown loaches get pretty huge as well. Both of these like having friends around to shoal with, too. I'd probably go with the SD's and the first three cichlids (all of these will grow pretty big), and then some fish for clean-up patrol, like plecos or corys. Perhaps some smaller "dither" fish, like tetras?

Remember, everyone starts out small, and within a year they get a lot bigger, start bumping elbows, and get a bit territorial, and with some mass to themselves to cause some trouble.

I was amazed at how "full" our sparsely decorated 75 gallon can look with our two severums (both about 6"), a rainbow, a 12+" sailfin pleco, and some small red-eye tetras. Crowded enough, that I'm starting to wonder how our chocolate cichlid (in quarantine right now) is going to work temporarily homed in this tank till I can scrape the funds together for another 75 or 90 gallon tank.

im aware of the clown loaches i have 2 already and from what ive seen they take a while to grow. Im relieved you are saying no to the balas i dont really like them but if i nocked it up to a 100 gallon could i still get the 1 or 2 eartheaters along with the SD's and first three cichlids with like a large school of congo tetras?

I appreatiate your help, im new to cichlids.

Ive been doing some more research and now I think I would like to add Bosemani Rainbows or buenos aires tetras instead of congos.
