Hi all and welcome to the new year. Hope all parties were well. I seem to have a slight problem with one of my clown loache. For a long while now it has looked like its anorexic. When i first noticed this i couldnt find any info on the net, as time past it didnt seem to change much so just assumed it was ok just not putting on the weight so to speek. But ive noticed in the last couple of weeks it seems to be getting thinner. You can pretty much see its skeleton. As far as his mood goes hes just as lively as always. Can any one help? :(

it could be being bullied by the others as they tend to due that sometimes. Or it could be a male as they tend to be skinier than the females.
Try fattening it up with tubifex cubes or frozen food.
Veg in the tank also tends to atract clowns.
Keep your eye on it and see how it goes.

I'm not a clown loach expert (so treat this advice knowing that) but for fish in general, if they are eating and acting normally but gradually getting thinner, it is probably a gut parasite. I would try a combination of Fluke Solve (which contains the powerful anti-parasitic praziquantel) and Interpet number 9 anti internal bacterial med.

have you noticed any difference in his poo?

Thank you for your advice. I will keep a close eye on him. Ive recently started putting in cucumber. I say recently two days ago and he did lay underneith for the whole day just eating away. Was very good to see, made me chuckle. Im also feeding blood worm and flake. Happy new year.

No not that im aware, it has been a long long time since i first noticed this starting. Im sat infront of the tank now and again swimming around like no bodies. Business.

There was one thing, for a while they were in just normal day light for a few months as the light i had kept cutting out, but i didnt realise this was happening tll i was at home one day and it started to flicker. The missus said it had been doing it for a while.

Wasting disease. It needs immediate treatment. Can't tell you what to use in the UK. Here in the states it would be Flubendazole. Some folks might try a mix of metronidazole and praziquantel as in API's General Cure.

Here is a link to the Fancy Guppies UK site page about Flubendazole. The little article is written by the person from whom I buy mine. Perhaps you could contact that organization and ask them where it might be obtained in the UK.
