I just bought a betta, It's my first fish. It's been about 2 1/2 days and It doesn't really eat. I've tried feeding him but he doesn't want to. Is there anything i'm doing wrong? Thanks for the help :D

He's probably just settling in, keep offering him food everyday and eventually he will eat it :good:

what food have you got? some are fussy eaters. try live or frozen food, they usually can't resist that!

Wow you guys were quick. Anyways, I'm just feeding him the flake food for bettas because I'm going to be taking him to college with me so live food isn't gunna fly so well. Hopefully he'll eat soon :)

Might be worth buying him some pellets etc for when you go to college, they will enjoy them alot more than the flakes :D

Some can take up to a week to start eating. probably because of stress of moving etc. he should settle in and start to eat soon. He was probably being fed something different. So just keep offering the flake and eventually he will eat it.

Try calling the store where you bought him to find out what they had been feeding him. Mine wouldn't eat for 7 days until I bought what he was used to eating. (I had another go for three weeks eating nothing but cat food until he decided that pellets tasted better!) Bettas are very wierd eaters.

Is he at all bloated, and is he having normal bowel movements? I've seen more than a few bettas come out of pet stores with constipation from all of the feed dried foods.
If he is defecating normally, then I agree; call the store and see what they fed. However, if the answer is flakes or freeze dried blood worms, try to eventually work him onto something healthier for the digestive system and more nutritionally complete, like a high quality pellet supplimented with frozen or live foods.

He just died last night... It was a real shock but yah, I guess next time I'm going to ask the store what they feed my betta because he just wouldn't take food. And I'm not going to walmart :/
RIP anigev

:rip: fishy.
Maybe he was ill when you bought him. Don't let that put you off though. Next time you should think of buying your fish from a breeder or an aquatic centre :flowers:

:/ Dont blame yourself I would say that was a poorly fish when you got him......sorry!

Ok! I'm back :p, thanks you guys. OK so here's the new scoop lol - I'm such a betta noob so I'm sorry, but I've done a ton of research and I still can't figure this out. I got a new betta this morning, (His name is Suennablergh) anyways, he's a beautiful betta and the tank conditions are perfect.. The water is properly conditioned you can see air bubbles all over everything cause it's awesome and oxygenated .. atleast i hope thats what it is and the betta is all happy.. He's even making bubble nests or what i tought were (which I killed on accident when i was feeding him and didn't notice) and fighting his reflection that he see's in the side of the tank lol. Anyways... this one won't eat. Am i doing something wrong? :p He had flakes in his original container.. and (I tried pet smart this time, and they looked healthy) So i've tried giving him Flakes... But he doesn't really notice them until they fall to the bottom and then it's too late.. I also tried pellets to no avail :p. This is quite frustrating, and I don't want to loose another poor betta after trying to make everything so perfect for him lol. Any advice?

The betta is still settling in if you only bought him this morning, it will take a couple of days for him to properly settle in, try taking the old food out so it doesnt contaminate the water. :good:
