I would like to keep a couple of Angel fish, but I have neons and cardinal teras would they be safe with Angels or would they be eaten?
I have looked in all my books but not much is said about Angels. I know there are lots of types, so what would I look for? I cant have anything too big just small ones is what I want.

i've had mine about a month - a small marble angel & a neon (getting more coz just found out they shoal) - & they seem perfectly happy. my angel's the most placid in the tank it seems.

heres the story...

in the wild, angels eat neon tetras as normal food, so it would be a good idea if u kept them n separaate tanks, but some poeple have kept them successfully...

what size is your tank , angels can grow from 7" to 12" in size so unless u want them swimming about with their fins sticking out of the water i would suggest @ least 45 gallon and then only possibly 2-4 angel fish , they also eat neons as their natural food ,

I think MrNewbie is talking about the wild caught Angels (Altums) or the captive Viel tail breed Angels reaching sizes of 12 inches, most captive breed Angels and ones for sale on the commercail market reach a max. size of 6-7 inches from top to bottom so they should be kept in a tank with a height of at least 25 gallons preferable tall. As for Neons with Angels, there will always be an agurment either way and it will often ome down to the old saying 'it depends on the idividual' in this case a fish, as akhtar said the Angels natural food is Neons but in a tank enviroment the Angels may not see the need to eat them as they have a good food supply already provided, also Angels that are captive breed are many many generations down the line from the wild Angels so no doubt have lost some of their instinct to pray on the Neons. So the final decision is really up to you. In my experience it has worked but in others it hasn't........

thanks everyone for help. I may chance them when I get my bigger tank.
