Hi All,
I am very new to this forum. I have already gone through few topics on keeping discus with angels on this forum, but still couldn't decide. So, please give me your valuable suggestion to make a right choice. I have a hexagon tank of 230l, in which I keep my 6 snakeskin blue discus. Now I want to add few angels in it. So what would be the exact number I can add to the tank? I perform 90% daily water change (since I feed them my own prepared food, along with tetrabits, bloodworms, earthworms, mosquito larvae, etc). My tank is BB (bare bottom), with no other community fish.

I think that is too big a water change and you will have more problems than not to be honest, i personally dont like the idea of water changes every day but if i did, it would never be more than 30 - 40% or you are removing a lot of the bacteria thats breaking down the waste and risk causing problems.

I keep angels and discus together fine but i dont think your tank is big enough for 6 discus plus angels, the angels will get a lot taller than the discus... i have 5 discus and 5 angels in 340L and i wouldnt put any more in as its looking full!

First of all, thanks for your reply. Soon I will be purchasing a 4X2X2 tank, which is 120 Gal 453 Litres and will be shifting the discuses to the new tank. So what will be your suggestion? How many angels can I put along with discus in the new tank? What will be the compatiable strains of angels? Sorry for too many questions at a time, but still waiting for your reply on the same. As for the water change and beneficial bacteria, I don't have a canister filter, insted of that I use 2 sponge filter (big). Those filters carry enough beneficial bacteria I think. Also I perform 90% water change daily, cause I heavily feed them my own prepared food (which contains - Chicken heart, raw shrimps, Spirulina, Vitamin B-complex, chicken breast meat, spinach, color flakes, fresh garlic extract, etc) which makes the water a mess, thus I have to .

In your new tank I wouldn't add more then 2 or 3. Angels are alright, but I would recommend getting them as small as possible. Once they reach maturity they might get too aggressive with your Discus, and may have to be swapped out for some new smaller ones. Quarantine your Angels, fluke them and even more importantly, worm them. 90% W/C daily is no problem as long as water chemistry is the same in tank water and new water.

I would say as adults the angels will get too aggresive. I tried it years ago( when I didn't know better), it didnt work out too well. They were the same size. An angel pair formed first and made life hell for all others in the tank. It was a 55G tank. Keep the discus by themselves. If you want tankmates ry cory catfish. Tare types that prefer to be at highertemps like discus.

Thanks guys, thanks for all your valuable informations. As for your suggestions, I will not keep angels then, with discus. Insted I will add four more discus to my new tank :) .
