Angels have spawned again.
My angels have spawned again on Mon 10-Nov. See my previous post regarding previous attempts here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=261105&hl=

This time I have moved the parents away. So eggs are left in a 40 litre (10 gal) tank. I have left an airstone about 2 cm away from the pot on which they have spawned. I added methylene blue on Monday evening. Every thing seems fine till now. Few eggs have turned white. Most of them are still transparent. I can see really tiny tail coming out of the eggs. I used torch light to see the eggs and within a second I can see some movement in the eggs. I guess they are light sensitive. They the eggs are still attached to the pot.
My question is
1. The water is still dark blue in colour. Do I need to do any water change?
2. Should I move the airstone away from the pot or turn it off as the constant water circulation may drop the eggs at the bottom.
3. I have got a sponge filter yesterday (ordered 2 weeks ago just got it yesterday, long story). I have left it in my main tank for now. I am thinking of switching off the airstone and put the sponge filter instead.

Thanks for any comments.

Puff....never bred anges and raised by hand before, I've always left them with the parents.... Might be worth PM'ing Tolak over that, as he is the resident angel wizz ;)

One thing I can answer though is that meth blue will wipe any filter you add to the tank, so you want to only move your filter clone media across, once you have waterchanged out the meth blue :good:

If I remember right, you start waterchanging out the meth blue when you get wriglers, keeping the airline going, and add your filters, after running some carbon, after they get to free swimming. :good: Like I said, I'd wait for Tolaks confimation first

Okay, let me try to help you out. First off I HATE YOU! I have 2 different pairs breed, but the eggs wont hatch. Not even with a combo of Meth Blue and Acriflavin. You will want to start taking out the meth blue. Do a 50 percent water change today, and another tommorow and keep theese up for the next week. After you finish the water changes, add in CopperSafe. Tehn do water changes every other day after that. The eggs will hatch in about a day or so. The eye's need to form, then they will "fall" off the pot.

ATTENTION: WHEN DOING A WATER CHANGE, POUR THE WATER IN THROUGH A SMALL HOLE IN A CONTAINER, ANY CURRENT FROM POURING IT IN CAN AND WILL INJURE AND KILL THE FRY.

Anyway, when feeding the fry, use BBS. I use frozen for my fish as it is cheaper for me to buy. You may want to try live to get them to start eating.

Thanks for your comments. I did 25% water change yesterday evening and 25% today morning. The water is still dark blue. Hopefully another 50% water change will dilute it.

I used water from my main tank and used a 15mm pipe to syphon from a Jerrycan into the tank.

I have sent a PM to Tolak so hopefully he will read this post and give some comments.

If you consider the day the eggs are spawned as day 0 I start 50% water changes on day 3. I use tap water with double the dechlorinator, as I really don't trust my water supplier.

Do not add the sponge filter until they are all swimming, this is usually on day 7. If you haven't had the sponge filter running for a long time in a cycled tank you can pile a little gravel from the cycled tank on top of the sponge filter, this will add enough nitrifying bacteria in a place with enough current to get the job done.

I add copper sulfate pentahydrate at half the suggested dose rate for the first week or two, this is a little trick I learned to use with water that has a higher pH. My pH is about 7.7, more acidic water has a bit of antibacterial properties to it, if your pH is lower you can skip this.

One of the biggest keys to getting angel fry past the first critical week or two is live baby brine shrimp. The motion of the micro food stimulates their feeding instinct, they will often not eat at the beginning without it. After about two weeks free swimming you can add a quality flake food ground fine, a coffee grinder works excellent for this.

Thanks Tolak.

My pH is 7.2 I dont have copper sulfate pentahydrate with me at the moment. I will see if I can get it today from my LFS.
