My pair has layed eggs a few times and usually nothing comes of it. This time the eggs hatched though and all the wigglys were hanging on to a leaf. My husband got wicked excited and wanted to have the babies. We noticed everytime one came off the leaf mom would gobble it up. So I put a fry net in the tank and tried to break the leaf off the plant. Well 90% of the wiggly guys fell off and mom and dad started munching down on them and attacking my hand as well (i feel so bad that i upset them). I managed to get about 15 of them into the fry net. From what I understand they will live on the yolk sack for about a week. Is this true? When they are bigger I guess I will set up a 5 or 10g for them and try to raise em. What should I do with them now? :)

Having previously had a pair regularly breeding I would like to tell you all the answers but I cannot. Not because I dont want to but because on more occasions than i care to remember I had them to free swimming stage. I was unable to provide them with the feeds required for their growth and to sustain life. This was not helped as I did not have the time to hatch the brine shrimp eggs to feed the young fish and had to try with fine powdered food.
They will need feeding at least 6 times a day to keep them alive and growing. Getting their first food is not that difficult as you will need to prepare some infusia (jam jar with say a dried crumbled letuice leaf in the bottom and filled with tank water, let it stand in a light but not a sunny place. A fatty layer forms on the surface and beneath it there will be swarms of infusorians. These single sell protozoans can then be collected from below the film with a pippette and added to the tank after about 2-3 days after hatching). After about 3-4 days of feeding this ideally you should feed newly hatched brine shrimp on a rery regular basis. I tried fine powdered foods but without success. Not helped by the fact that they were not being fed during working hours. Jobs eh.
I hope this info has been of some use to you. I am sure someone will be able to help you a little more than I can.

I've hatched a few spawns & grown them out. The yolk sack will only last a day or so, after that they need really small, nearly microscopic food. Never tried the infusoria, always relied on bbs from the start. It really isn't that hard to build a hatchery, or to hatch a small batch daily. Only adds an extra 15 or 20 minuites to my day.

I would put them in a 5 or 10 gallon as soon as possible. The fry net is way too small, and they will need daily water changes. A bare bottom tank is best, easier to keep clean, as you will need to syphon & wipe the bottom daily. I feed mine 3 times a day and they do just fine. If you have a spare cory around, toss one in the tank once they start swimming. Great bottom cleaners, they love leftover bbs. Leave a light on 24/7, this keeps them from settling to the bottom where bacteria are.

HTH, good luck with the fry!

this sounds really complicated. how do they survive int he wild?

edit: I can barely see them either

i don'think my little ones are gonna make it. I just don't have the time for it. I figured they'd just eat their yolk sack for a good week and then I could feed them mini-bites or something but with my luck they will all survive. I never try to breed, my fish just do and sometimes i don't know what to do with them all. :)

Crush your flake food so its like dust that always works for me, and also dont feel bad that only 15 made it because thats an avg really.

I was just so surprised that they all starting falling off the leaf! i actually got a net and starting catching a few. They are so microscopic I could barley see them. Right now they look like they are attached to the side of the fry net. Is that normal?

yeah mine have done that before as well they just need a little hand getting out of the net, i pushed the net inside out then put it into the water so they can free them selfs.

I just noticed that mom and dad angels have wiggly's on a leaf. I must have missed them b4. I not gonna mess with them because the fish were very upset when i started messing with them yesterday.

just noticed that mom and dad have moved their babies to different leaf!!! and are guarding it ferociously. The fry/wigglies are bigger now. How can i get them food?

I get about 0% survival rate when feeding crushed foods to angels. They just dont take it at that size. An average survival rate from an angelfish spawn should be in the 200-400 range give or take.

Anyways, you dont need to feed the fry until they are freeswimming. As wiglers, they will live off their yolk sac. Once freeswimming, you should begin doing at least twice daily feedings of newly hatched brine shrimp. Daily water changes are pretty much a must for raising young angel fry. I keep mine in the 1g hatching jars for about 5-6 days after they become freeswimming then move them to 10g's.

if they are so small how do u avoid sucking them up.
Skill

You get good at it when doing water changes on multiple jars, mutliple times daily. I always manage to suck a few up. They get sucked back up and go right back in.
