I adopted 3 angels several months ago... a gold, and two gold marbles. All 3 had nice quarter-sized round bodies at the time. Over time the gold one has flourished ... grown in size and has maintained her nice shape ... while the marbles have not even appeared to grow, and have developed kind of an odd body shape. They've gotten slightly longer in the body instead of staying roundish. Does this sound like some sort of disease or parasite that's causing this?

I have a marble that is doing exactly the same thing. It appears perfectly healthy otherwise but is not growing at anywhere near the same rate as the others. I have often wondered about it but where it is so active and cichlid like (has a real attitude) i just passed it off as slow growth but now i look at it and the others are at least twice the size of it in both hight and width. i know this doesn't answer your question but your not alone with the condition. :dunno:

Terry, after reading that you're in the same boat, I started thinking that maybe it had something to do with the marbles. But then I remembered that the shop I bought these at still have some of their original tankmates, and they're growing nicely ... just like the golds! :dunno:

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has experienced this, but then again, I'm sorry that you're having the same problem! I posted the same question on an angelfish forum, and go NO responses.... so I started to feel like I was the only one that's ever had this problem. Still.... I would like to know what the deal is?!?

heresmike, maybe he's a dwarf or the runt of the fry. I had an angelfish that did not grow one single bit in 6 months. At over six months old, my (dwarf) angel was still quarter size.

Sadly, she died (due to my ignorance), but I was told that dwarf/runts will grow eventually, but just maybe at a slower rate. I say give it time. :)

As far as your angels weird shape... I have no info on that. Sorry. I really hope it all works out for you.

i have a marble just like that too, i have been wondering if maybe i put her in with my livebearers she will grow. i remember hearing somewhere that some kind of fish would occasionally have one of a group that would do this and then when taken away from its own species would flourish. but i don't remember if it was angels or not. sucks getting old. :/ :zz :sly: :nerd:

Seems like you posted a good question :D

Sorry but I have no clue why they would grow weird.
