Ok at the moment they are laying eggs, only noticed when i went to feed them. now where do I go from here? I'm planning on letting them raise the fry themselves even if I lose the first batch as this is there first spawn but in the end they should make better parents than me.

so should i keep the lights on now? and should i be doing water changes? obviously don't want to spook them and they eat the eggs.

also should i increase the number of feeds they get? at the mo they are on a mixture of live foods and flake.

What other fish do you have in the tank? as these could predate on the fry, and the parents will also fierecly defend their eggs so be prepared for some fireworks. Not sure about the lights on or not. I would have said that if they're spawning with the lights on then they may be ok, but I'll let a more experienced angel breeder step in here!

Good luck on the spawning, I'm hoping mine get in the mood eventually, I've already got individuals from my group marking out territory, but I haven't noticed much pairing behaviour yet.

thanks, luckily I was one step ahead of them and seen her breeding tube out so they are in a tank by themselves. there currently spawning with the light on and in a noisy living room so i'm hoping they will be used to noise.

only thing I haven't managed to do is install a sponge filter so not sure when I should put that in now, plus they have spawned on the side of the internal filter so that will need to remain in the tank for a few days now

Ive had success with Angels I would leave them to it for the first time to see what the the pair do I had years ago were good parent protected there fry fiercely.Ideally no tank mate would be good so they don't pick off the fry. What size of tank do you have?

Filter wise, you can either add the sponge filter over the other side of the tank and run it now so it can mature, or if possible put some kind of mesh, tights or similar, or wrap filter sponges or floss round the inlet holes so little fish don't get sucked in.

thanks the sponge filter has got to go in as i've seen the damage a normal filter can cause (i've actually seen a load of fish with no eyes because of the filter being too strong) just a matter of when to place it in without spooking them, should I wait til the fry hatch or will that be more of a chance of them eating them. haha there prob is no right or wrong answer

ok day 2 in the angel tank lol,

lost a few eggs which has to be expected and both parents are doing a great job of looking after them so far

now when they hatch what is best for them, brine shrimp or banana worm as I have the latter ready but would have to start the hatchery for the bbs

Looks good my two angels have taken a interest in a small internal filter in my tank.

well they have now hatched, and the parents have moved them onto a leaf

Proper parenting skills, that's a good sign. Many tank born fish now don't know how to look after their own so this is definitely good news.

yeah just don't know how long to leave the parents with them before they eat them, there getting fed twice a day live food to stop them from being hungry lol.

If they're doing well, just leave them alone between feeding. Is the tank in a quiet spot in the house without much disturbance?

nope it has a 1yr old running around it as it's in the living room. they let me do a water change this morning and will manage a greater one tomorrow now they are lower in the tank

well quick update, the fry are now free swimming well they are when the parents aren't trying to make them sit on the leaf

Great news, you've got a good set of parents there who know how to look after their fry well.
