I have read that angels like well planted tanks. I am just wondering if they have to be real plants or will plastic or silk plants be ok?

My girlfriends tank (main attraction 3 angels) started off with plastic plants then after 6 months she switched to real plants, the angels seemed happy both ways. I havent really seen then nip at the real plants so i presume they just like plants for the cover they provide so real or fake should do IMO.

I've been using silk & plastic for years. They do like taller slender plants due to their body shape.

Thanks I'll bear that in mind :good:

It's been a long time since I kept angels and I always had them in planted tanks but I like to change things around so plastic plants are better for me (even though I think alot of them look ugly)

I'm thinking of putting 2 angels in a 30gal. What would you recommend as tank mates?

Good so I have plenty of choice.

I must admit, although I kept FW tropicals successfully in the past I never really put much thought into it. I must have been very lucky never to have any disasters

But.....after a couple of years keeping SW I have learned there's lots more to keeping fish than having a pretty tank

Soooooo.....This time I'm gonna do it right :good:

I was hoping to possibly keep German Blue Rams as I've had them before and I think they are the nicest fish with lovely personalities.

I only have a 30gal for FW at the moment so I'll probably steer clear of plecs as I'm well aware they grow....

That's good to hear. You had luck with Blue Rams then? Nice, you must have nice soft water then or you use Ro water since you said you had saltwater.
There is a list of plecs in the catfish section that states all the plecs that stay under 8".

yes I had a pair of Rams for about 3 yrs before I closed down my last FW tank. I do use RO in all my tanks as my tap water typically has ammonia at 25ppm

I have noticed a huge improvement in my goldfish tank since I switched to RO. Much less algae. Plenty of Rowaphos helps there too :good:

Woah! I dont think that should be allowed. I know nitrate can be up 20ppm but I dont think tap water should have any ammonia or nitrite.
Anyone have an understanding of this and more knowledge in the matter?

sounds good in that size tank i would have,

2 angels
10 tetras (whatever type you fancy)
5 corys
and 2 Bristlenose plecs (they clean algea)

i would never use fake plants as i think the plastic can harm them when hiding in the plants. i always have live and when i kept angels i had live plants.

 I could possibly be meaning nitrate. My husband does the testing bits.... my job is fish choosing and decoration. SW is by far my area of expertise
