i posted this in the tropical discussion forum with little response, hopefully i can get some help here.can i put angelfish with kribs and clown loaches?the clowns don't concern me as much as the kribs.they are both female and not a breeding pair.

I don't usually recommend mixing continents together. Feeding and water requirements can be different. You have the issue of protective/aggressive kribs. If the angels venture near will they understand the kribs signal to back off? No, because they don't share the same environment naturally together and don't understand eachothers cues.

I would say don't mix them.

That can be a tricky question. Yes, they prefer the same water requirments. Yes, the Angelfish is a mid to top dweller, and the kribs is a bottom dweller. Yes, if you feed them both a good quality flake they will survive. But hte kribs will most likely nipt eh angels fins, or do worse. If you do get some of both. I suggest really big angels and not so big kribs.

i already have the kribs and it is a 24in tall tank, would that make any difference?when they were in my community tank they only picked on each other.oh by the way they are both girls.

i did some research on angels and it says angels need a tall tank (which i have)and are peaceful, their tankmates are mostley what i have but it didn't say anything about african cichlids.i think i will try it unless someone who has experienced this themselves can tell me otherwise.

I kept a breeding pair of kribs with an angel some time ago, I was stuck for tank space. I loaded the bottom of a 20 high with clay pots & pvc pipe, had an angel that was odd fish out in a pairing situation, recovering from some fin damage in that tank. The kribs didn't bother the angel, and surprisingly, the angel didn't bother the krib fry when they spawned.

I just couldn't pass up the free kribs, the black angel healed up great.

so i guess i'll give it a try.if no one experimented we'd all have the same tanks with same fish.wish me luck.

Hi. I have two Angels in my 5x2x2 with 3 Kribs, 2female 1male. So far there has been no problems with any of them. The only time i had a problem was when i put my 2nd Angel in, this was my other Angel attacking it. I just netted the 1st Angel for 3 days and now they both swim around together.

i'm planning on putting 4 in.i think my tank is tall enough and like i said they're both girls and i don't plan on adding a male krib.

But thats different a angelfish/Krib in a 5x2x2 is miniscule both have huuge amounts of territory to escape to and reduce fighting.

Dnn3 How many Litres or what are the dimentions of your tank?

it's 60 gal and the dimensions are 48in long,24in tall,12in deep.

I know its different but i was trying to explain that just because some people have bad experiences with their fish, this is not always the case for everyone. The Kribs will tend to fight between themselves and leave the other fish alone. Just because i have them both in a bigger tank doesn't mean that i won't experience trouble from time to time. I have lots of different cichlid species in my tank and chances are that there may be a conflict at some point.
