Angelfish With Columnaris Or Saprolegnia

ok mate... I think we will settle for a good pic. It will give us a better idea. Keep us posted please, we are interested

Emma

Ok wait for the pic.
Best to quarantine new fish to stop them fetching things into the tank.

I just took a few pics, sorry it took so long, but I have a few decent pics which show the white stuff they'll be up in 5 minutes, stupid photobucket is being slow

Ok, so one picture loaded, I will add pics in a one at a time schedule, I have about 5 pictures, the first one is the best I have, so i loaded it first. (stupid dial-up)

BTW- the white stuff on his mouth has always been there, the white stuff on the side is what I'm worried about

Hopefully you now understand what I mean by a white slimy filmy substance. Also, I will be going to petsmart and a smaller fish store tommorow, I will be getting Pimafix, but what other medication should I get?

White on the mouth is columnaris.
I would carry on treating the fish with tetracycline, you could add it to the tank water but it will wipe the benefical bacteria out in the filter.

the white on the mouth has always been there, its been there for weeks, even when he was healthy, im worried about his side that is the new slimy white stuff that developed.

update on angelfish- still acting healthy, eating like normal, but the white stuff is still growing, its been like this for days. I'm going to petsmart soon, so a medication advice would be helpful

me and Wilder have been chatting on the PM about this. We still recommend you run the full course of tetracycline.

Okay, Im just worried because I'm not able to give him the full dose usually because the other angelfish steals some flakes. Also the white stuff seems to be progressing. But he's still acting healthy so I guess that's good

well not really, I have a 10 gallon that I'm setting up for a native fish tank, but the thing is that I have no heater for it, and I'm supposed to receive the fish (and crayfish) from my friend today, he just can't hold on to them any longer, the fish are starting to die because of the bioload, and I don't really want to put that on hold.

I could maybe buy a cheap 3 gallon tank for 10 bucks today, what did you have in mind for the angelfish?

for the angelfish, buy a cheap 3 gallon Qtank, fill it with existing tankwater. Start a full dose of tetracycline. The angel might not be eating it,because of the competition for food. It is IMHO the only way to treat this fish individually. (sorry for sounding like a vet)...because I am a vet :D

Okay, that's what I'll do. I have some leftover slate rock to give him some hiding places as well.

However, how should I keep it warm? my room is about 64 degrees, or would I just end up having to do water changes?

My angelfish seems to act better with melafix so should I add that to hospital tank? what about salt as well? Should I buy any other meds?

NO! no other meds. Just stick with tetracycline and the Melafix if you have to. See if you can scrounge a small heater or buy one. A Qtank setup is an investment for the future, and a backup heater is no bad thing anyway. I have 2 backups just incase.

Look on it as an investment mate

Alright, thank you so much for helping me emmsy and Wilder, I wouldn't know what the heck to do without you.

I'll keep you updated if anything emerges, but I'm going to go the the fish store for now.
