About 3 days ago I bought a new Angelfish for my tank. I have a 10 gallon tank that had 2 Angels in it but I saw that one was EXTREMELY dominant over the other and I read that it's better to have more than 2 to keep the peace. (Yes, I know that's too small of a tank for 3 angel...I plan on getting a bigger tank)

After I brought the new one home my biggest fish started acting strangely. I fed them live bloodworms and they enjoyed themselves, big black one didn't and was actually kind of scared of the worms. After a few hours I went back into my room and turned the fish tank light on. I noticed my biggest angel was sitting behind the white house that I have in the tank and just sitting at the bottom of the tank looking very listless. It worried me so I opened the tank and got the fish net to see if that would scare the fish into moving. It moved and I fed them their flakes...they all ate. I went to bed and everything seemed fine.

I went in there about 2 hours ago and noticed that the big black one had weezled it's body inbetween the back of the tank wall and this fake grass I have. It was just sitting there...in this little spot looking very listless and breathing very slowly. I freaked out thinking it was dying and got the fish net once again and got it to move...it swam around the tank and I fed them again and they all ate. I left the light on and everythings been fine.

I just went in there to check on them and I stood in the hallway...they saw me and swam to the front of the tank and the big black one swam to the middle. I walked up and noticed this thing hanging...for a min I thought it was the fish going to the bathroom but it didn't disconnect from the body and it didn't look like poop.

I got online and looked up how to sex an angelfish and I got a photo of a fish with it's "papilla" showing. I've come to the conclusion that that thing hanging from the body is just that...it's papilla. I belive it's a female as it's HUGE and that's what a few websites said. Now...at first the behavior of the fish I thought maybe it was sick and dying...then I thought okie maybe it's resting/sleeping (looked that up they don't sleep they rest) and NOW I'm believing that "SHE" is in heat(?) ready to breed and make some babies...

Opinions are welcomed! I'd really appreciate it... here's the picture I JUST took as she swam up too the glass.

A 10g is way to small for angelfish. They need a tank at least 18 inches tall as their fins are very delicate and will rub against the rocks and get infected. That jsut look's like red poop to me. Also, they look like veiled tail's, so that will make the fin issue even worse, as they have extrmely long fins. Did you cycle the tank? Papailla's are white, and they arent that big( unless this is a special case, where " she" would just happen to have a red papilla adn a very big one at that). You might want to upgrade to a 20g tank, let it cycle, then put the angels in there as the tank is WAY to SMALL. The reason it was hiding is probably hiding from the other due to aggression. It is almost best to get 4 to 6 baby angel's, wait till they pair off, and then seperate them, as since it is almost impossible to sex them, you enevr know what your gonna get. But, if you dont take my advice seriously, wait for Toalk, as he is like the Angel Guy, he spawns all kinds and everything, adn he DEFINATLEY know's his stuff. I was wondering, how did you get your username? It seem's so different. Ohhh, by the way, welcome to Tropical Fish Forum's.

Oh I know it's too small...I plan on getting another tank as soon as I can afford it (out of a job at the moment). 2 of the angels are veiled tailed and the newest one has a shorter tail and not very big fins. I went in there soon after I posted this and it was gone so I'm assume it was a poop. I don't think it's hiding from aggression because it was the one that was the aggressive one to begin with. The newest one hangs out by itself and is kinda cool and relaxed and the other one that was with the black one at the begining was the one being chased...that's why I got the 3rd one hoping the aggression would subside as thats' what all the websites said.

Anyway, I take your advice seriously. I'm not really here too be told I need a bigger tank because I already know...it's not a matter of not wanting to get it...it's a matter of money. (sorry if that sounds bitchy...didn't mean for it too sound that way)

My username is a nickname people call me that came from another nickname people once called me. My name is Ericka and people called me reeeeka and then it kind of morphed into eeeekie lol

I seriously added another angelfish. But, how long do you think it will take before you can get a new tank( plus cycling). Cycling can take up to a month. And the new one sounds smaller, and it will get stuned, wchich wills horten it's life, make's it's eye's to large for it, adn lead to aggression from the other 2 fish. Plus your mollies! It just isnt a good idea at all. I like that name, Ericka! Good luck! Did you cycle this tank?
