in my 20 gallon tank i have 5 angelfish that are roughly bigger than the size of a toonie, not including the fins. and in my other tank is a 40 gallon and i only have one angel fish because i got the 5 angelfish later on in time and same with the 20 gallon. now the angelfish that is in the 40 gallon is twice as big and the ones in the 20 gallon. he has always been on his own and is friendly, and loves swimming around etc.

i know that i will have to put the angelfish that are in the 20 gallon in the 40 soon because they are growing bigger. i will be swapping fish to the 20 so that there is enough room for them.

now my question is the angelfish that is in the 40 gallon, will he be alright with the new angelfish or will he just attack them, or the other way around. i have this one angelfish that is in the 20 gallon and he seems to be a bit more aggressive. and is 6 angelfish in a 40 gallon to much? i'm new to angelfish and don't know everything about them, but just want to make sure that what i'm doing is alright. oh and I've had the angelfish in the 20 gallon since they were small.. maybe about 6 months or so. and the one in the 40 gallon is about a year. not too sure lost count.

thanks

How well planted is the 40 gal.? Are there plenty of hiding places? Will the 20 gal. be availabe as a fallback if things get out of hand?
Angels can be territorial. Also rearange the tank just before you add the other five. To help shake up existing territory.
And watch them closely.

yes the 40 gallon is well planted. lots of hiding places. i put the fish in today and the large angel went crazy.. would not stop chasing, but would leave only this one alone.. weird.. so i put the large angel in the 20 gallon.. seems to be doing good.. and i think i might be getting a pair out of the angels..

also the one that he did not chase was i think going to become a pair of the one he chased the most.. strange..

when the other angelfish are roughly his size would it be okay if i put him back in the 40 gallon or will this mess happen again?
