Yet again.... problems crop up when I think everything is going well :/ At least this time it's not compatibility issues. :S

I have an angel that's got a bit of a sore spot on its side. I took it to the lfs and was told that it looked like a bite with a bit of fungus setting in. My water was changed right before the angels were put in the tank, so I think it was more aggravated by the stress of moving from the lfs to my tank here.

I know that fungus can cause some bad problems and would like to quarrantine it, but the only other tank I have is my 10g which has my rams.

Should I move my rams to the 46g community tank and the ill angel to the 10g? It's not a tall angel so for short term, the small tank is not a concern. My thinking is that in the smaller tank, I can treat the problem more aggressively.

PLUS (there's always some compounding factor around here :( ) I'm going out of town tomorrow for nearly a week. If this angel should not make it, the ammonia spike in my community tank would affect more fish than if the angel was in the tank alone.

I'm leaning towards moving the angels to the 10g and moving the rams to the 46g, but thought I'd check first b/c I'd really like to minimize the amount of stress I put my fishies through :/

Thanks,
Kristin

FWIW, here are my water parameters in each tank. I did a 20% water change in each tank on Saturday and just did another 20% now and will do another one tomorrow morning before I leave.

NitrAtes - 20 (I think my kit just tests high for this - when my lfs tested one time they came up with about 10-12)
NitrItes - 0
Ammonia - 0
Total Hardness - 120
Buffering/Alkalinity - 180
pH - 6.7

For what it's worth...

I say go ahead and move the angel to the 10 and put the rams in the 46. Sounds like your best option to me.

HTH

Thank you so much Cali. That's the direction I was leaning but didn't know if someone here might have insight that I didn't as to why not to do that.

Incidentally, my trip I mention in my firt post is to DC! :p

Edited to add... Never mind, I guess it's a moot point now. :( I went to get the angel to move it and it was swimming pretty poorly. So I netted it and put it in the 10g and went to catch the rams. Before I could even catch one though, the poor angel was swimming even worse and bumping into things and mainly just bumping along the bottom so I have put it out of its misery :byebye: I just got these angels on Saturday. I lost one ON Saturday and one today, Monday.

There were 3 bigger ones and three smaller ones. The 2 that are gone are 2 of the bigger ones and the other one (in my avatar) is doing OK, but not as well as the smaller ones.

Parker, I am very sorry about your loss...

At least he's no longer in pain, right? Take comfort in that.

Into which airport are you flying? I live near Dulles... stop by and say hello! :D  :D

Have a safe trip!!!

Thanks Cali, I actually flew in to Reagan and am staying in Crystal City. I just hope my other fishies are OK while I'm gone!!!

I hope you are having fun. That is a GORGEOUS angel in your avatar, BTW.

I am very sorry for your loss. I always feel a sense of relief when a fish I have that is really sick finally dies (I can not bear to euthanize, I have not the stomach nor the heart for such gruesome things). I hate seing living things suffer, and I think it's always better when they are put out of their misery, don't you? Once again, sorry for your loss and better luck in the future. You have beautiful angels, may you enjoy them for many years to come. :)

sorry to hear about your loss.

for future reference, it is always best to quarantine fish with certain diseases. fish with parasites, you will want to treat the whole tank though. parasites are usually infested in the tank and use the fish as hosts to feed. quarantining these fish will only transfer the parasite leaving it remaining in the original tank. smaller tanks are ideal for quarantine. they do not require, substrate and can be run on a sponge filter off the aeraator. swimming space is not really a requirement in quarantine tanks as the fish is usually lethargic anyways. bare bottom tanks make cleaning up easier and help keep the quarantine tanks in pristine conditions. you don't want to take a chance of bacteria aggravating the condition.

also, using a smaller tank for a quarantine cuts down on the amount of meds required for treatment. meds can be quite expensive and the less amount used the better. some meds, like those containing methylene blue, will also stain the silicone in your tank a pale blue color. some find this undesirable in display tanks.

Thanks for the advice!!

I just got back from my trip and now I only have 2 angels :/ There is no sign of the other 2 :dunno: I don't know if the snails got them or if they died and the lady who was feeding them got them out or what... She didn't mention it when she brought my dog back though.

I dunno, I'm getting so frustrated, I just seem to be going from one problem to another with this tank even though I'm trying my hardest. :/

Ah, don't feel too bad. We all have problems with new tanks. I assume you've read my various posts of all the problems I've been having with my 46 gallon, including the one about having to start from scratch. I dunno... but between you and me I think 46 bowfronts are cursed :shifty:

I guess so David! I saw your post but hadn't had a chance to read it - I was out of town for 3 days. The problem is, this isn't a new tank :/ It's been established for over 6 months.....

I did lose the missing 2 (found them  ) and lost the 5th one today too. I went to the lfs this afternoon and they were super busy, but they're going to test my water for me on Tues or Weds.

I just think it had to be something wrong with the angels when I got them b/c I haven't lost a single neon or cory and the first angel died within 4 hrs. :/

I just can't help but worry that the lfs might think I'm trying to scam them or something.... :S
