Angelfish Identification

There are all sorts of theories but to be honest the only way to be sure is to wait till they pair off.

Ive got 3 that Im still unsure of.....only time will tell.

The only absolute way is to wait until they spawn. Females have a thicker, stubbier breeding tube, males are thinner and pointier.

Some people say they can tell by body shape, or the way they carry their fins. This is only guessing, never seen anybody who can get much more than 50% accurate with this.

I see

The two i have at the moment are only babies

I guess only time will tell!

How old do they have to be before they can start breeding?

9 months is about the standard age, they may pair off before then though. I do have a pair of gold pearl scales that started to breed closer to 6 months. Also I was lucky with my male pearl, I dont know if its just that he's a horney little guy or what but before his first mating he often swam round with his breeding tube out :hey:

Its gona be a while yet then as mine are very young!

What different kinds of Angels are there?

One of mine is silver with a few black patches and the other is silver with black patches but has a yellow head with a bit of red on its belly

What kinds are these?

The one with red and yellow is known as a Koi while the other sounds like a variation of the natural (or zebra) angel. These types are just variations of the naturally patterned P. Scalare and can be treated as such.
