i have two angel fish in my 55g. tank one has always been aggresive towards the other they did liplock about two mths ago so i added a slate for them to lay eggs but no eggs. lately the aggresive fish has turned its anger towards all the fish in the tank. is this because they are getting readdy to mate, i have two males, do i need to add a few more angelfish or just rehome the mean angel? please help

My angels were in a 55 gallon. I had three. One morning I got up to the littlest black angel lying on the sand with no fins left. They never showed aggression before hand. I managed to nurse him back to health, but it was close(he's the angel in my avatar). You need to keep a very close eye on them. They can do alot of damage in a short time. You may need to rehome one. Good morning and welcome to the forum! :good:

It is very rare that two male angels will coexist. Two females may and pairs usually do. Sometimes two females will spawn together, but this wont produce fry of course.

Mating behavior can vary from pair to pair in terms how how they inteact re agression. However, they will pick out a spawning site, they will clean it. Then they will defend it. This means driving off any other fish that approaches and can include jilling them. Finally, their tubes should come down as they get near to spawning. Look between the ventrals and the anal fin.
