My own place!!! Niagara Falls, Ont.
I'll be setting up my new 34g this summer, and putting my current tank stock [see profile] into it.
I already have a pair of German Blue Rams, but I fell in love with some of the angelfish at the LFS and I've been drooling over getting them..

Would it be possible to do rams and angels in a 34g?
And if so, how many angels?

Awesome! :)

I know angels should probably be in pairs, but the ones at the LFS are so young and so plentiful in the tank that it's hard to tell if they're pairing off or not.. I was thinking maybe one angelfish and the pair of rams as the centerpiece fishes. Not too sure how that'd go, but it's worth a shot.

It's weird because I dont know why they should be in pairs :dunno: I've had my angel since summer of last year and he seems fine on his own, I did have 2 angels and I got them both at the same time, but about a week after I got them my other angel killed it (I'm assuming it was the angel because I only kept guppies and swordtails back then) and the dead angel's fins were all completely gone  But I still have the one angel and he's awesome, I love him  (or her, not sure on the sex) The only thing odd about my angel is he stares at the heater and plants for long periods of time. It's actually quite funny, but I'm not sure if it's normal

If you do get angels, I wanna see pics!!! :D

Maybe both your angels were males and they fought? No idea really, I've just always been told they should be kept in pairs.

Hmm.. if I get one I'll definitely take pics. I'll have my grandfather's camera then, and it takes much better shots than mine. I hope mine's just as quirky as yours, it'd be awesome to watch!

It's possible, they could have been both males.

What kind of angel were you looking at? I have a marble and he's beautiful, but I've always wanted a pure black one myself

It was either a marble or a koi that I saw, but they also had gorgeous black veiltail angels.. there were only two left though, and I know they'll be gone by the time I set up the tank.

They have some beautiful adult angels though, but they're $50 a pair. There's one pair in the tank that looks like shimmering diamonds, the way their scales catch the light. No idea what they are, but if I had the money I'd get them.

should be alright in the short term...might need to upgrade to a 55 when they become adults,
and please make sure the tank is 18+" high as angels need space for their long dorsal fins

It's definitely 18" high, I checked the dimensions on that before I even bought it.

I doubt upgrading to a 55 will be in the future, as this tank is staying with me if I live with the grandparents.. they saw the 4 footers and freaked, my 3 footer is the biggest they'd go.

What if it's just one angel and the rams? There's more than enough space with the way I decorate tanks, since it's just plants, sand, and the occasional terra cotta pot.

sounds good
the only reason i said you should upgrade in the future is because Angels can get pretty big(not many people realize that), not because of the stocking options
good luck with them

Hi Littlefishie

I think Dwarf Dude covered it all really,
I keep a pair of German Rams with a breeding pair of Angels and they totally ignore each other.

I think like you said the problem if you want a pair of angels is getting a male and female or 2 that don't fight, i bought 3 babies Angels and once 2 had paired up i moved the other to a different tank where he's happy.

Good luck i'm sure they'll be fine

I have 3 Angels in my tank...one full grown ( male I think ) and 2 mid sized and they all seem to get along very well...I don't know if I was lucky or what..but of course those times can change when the little ones get a bit bigger..
