my friend who runs a pet shop and breeds fish told me not to keep the one i got cuz he says if your going to keep them keep them with no other fish cuz they are dirty fish and get diseasers inside them easy when he was going to try breeding them he got arownd 12 of them set them up in difrent tanks and in a cuple of weeks most had died and the fish that were with some of them got sick and died as well he only has 2 of them left now and he says hes not going to sell any in the shop cuz they carry to many bad things things with them and give them to other fish .......evan if theres only a little truth to this i would like to no cuz i was think of returning it befor he told me but im not shore cuz they look nice but if any of this is true i will return it cuz i have other fish with it

Angel fish do not harbour disease in them any more than other breds of fish. I think your friend needs to do more research if he runs a fish shop.
Saying all his Angel fish died because they are 'dirty' fish is just a cover story for some other problems. Might not even be him, he could be using a poor supplier of fish hence them all dieing.

While I agree that it all sounds very exaggerated, in my experience angelfish are very prone to stress related disease when you first get them - which they do seem to "pass on" to other angels (or is it just that the stress brings it on in them too?). We had a terrible struggle with ours when we had them and sought advice off more experienced fish keepers who had had similar experiences. After they recovered they were fine though and no other species seemed to be affected.

The angels i`ve kept have been fine. One had a case of wite spot when i got him but he was a rescue fish any way

hmmm well it sounds like your all saying is any related disease they might carry more then normal is due to stress or poor breeding the guys tell what he thinks is the truth i no that cuz i do no him but i do no some things in the info in his shop are wrong i think probly most of his info on fish come from a few books and some of what the supplyers have said and from what he sees when he trys breeding fish (oh he dose not have the net) but i am still worryed about him calling it a dirty fish cuz i no that term applys to gold fish if your thinking about mixing them its not recormended cuz they muck up there own water and poisen the water for other fish i have herd others on here talk about gold fish as and calling them dirty could the angel fish muck up its water nore then most tropical fish

Angels are known to potentially carry a disease that could prove fatal to Discus - this is probably where all this stems from.

They are not generically a "dirty" fish.

seems like this is a subject many peepl view difrent ways and cant say one way or the other :/

fish such as goldfish, oscars and plecos are called "dirty fish" because they produce an unusually large amount of poo and pee compared to most other fish of the same size.

i can think of no one on here who considers angels to inherently carry more disease or to be "dirty". however, if your friend bought his angels from a poor quality supplier, then there is a good chance that (a) they had been previously exposed to more diseases and (B) the angels were overly inbred, resulting the same weakened immune system which most fancy guppies suffer from.

the moral of the story? just like other popular fish, you are more likely to recieve quality stock when you purchase from a quality supplier. you get what you pay for.
