I have found that when an angelfish is in a tank that's too small or crowded, they will become aggresive. I have two angelfish in a 10 gallon and they are pretty nasty things. They will chase other fish around and will even kill fish who are smaller than 2 inches long. If they don't get fed enough, they will turn on the plants and eat and destroy them. Be sure to give your angelfish plenty of room; otherwise, it, its tankmates and even you won't be very happy with the result.

If you plan on keeping the angels to anywhere near adult size, a 10 gallon is much too small for one, much less two. I have heard of breeders keeping a breeding pair in a 10 gallon, this is usually short term, a month or less. It's pretty much a test run, pull a spawn or two to see if they are worth keeping as a pair long term. There are no other fish in there with them. Minimum for a breeding pair is a 20 high. This is also with nothing in there with the pair. Two larger angels in a 10 with other fish is a disaster waiting to happen.

Smaller angels in a 10 gallon is no problem. Juvenile angels don't have aggression issues. You can overstock a larger tank with potential breeders, the aggression is spread among tankmates, similar to stocking an African Cichlid tank. I've had no problem stocking a 55 with 20 angels growing to dollar body size or larger. You must overfilter, and you must do massive water changes. This is nothing someone wants to start out with, you need triple the normal filtration, and 50% water changes 3 times weekly.

what a random comment.

I think it's a good example of what can happen in an overstocked tank.

yea but thats why its random.

that happens with jus about any fish in any tank thats overstocked.

Sure, with n.w. cichlids. Plecs & corys would give you water quality & maintenance issues. Fish like danios would have stress issues.

That is crazy. I have 2 angelfish in a 45 gallon tall tank and that should be perfect for them to keep helathy and be large and beautiful. They have grown alot since I bought them. I can't even imagine one in a 10 gallon.
