Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have 4 angelfish in a 29g. The largest one is about the size of a US dollar coin and the smallest is about 1/2 dollar size with the other two in between. I had two to begin with but the bigger one kept picking on the smaller one so I got two more (all from the same place and tank) hoping it would calm things down. Well it did for awhile...today I noticed the two biggest ones picking on the two smaller ones and now they are in hiding. I'm thinking this may have something to do with the higher temps (i noticed a white spec on a neons tail). Should I move the two smaller ones to my other 29g? I was hoping for these guys to pair up. I'm also afraid if I move them that they will just pick on each other in the different tanks.
Any ideas?
thanks

Angels need 10 gallons per fish. You have 1 too many angels. Also, angels tend to pick on new fish (angels) until they been in the tank for a while (sometimes over one week or more). Watch the fish and if it cont, you might want to move the smaller ones. I did add 2 angel fish to my tank with an angel who has been in there for one year. They were chased around for a few days (showing them who is boss I guess). After that, they get along well now. :D

I'm no pro with Angels, but they do hide a lot when they are new (with other angels in the tank before them). I hope that helps.

10 gallons per angel is just a general rule, it does not always apply. How many you can have depends on many other circumstances. I got away with 2 angels in a 10 gallon in my newbie days. (They lived there for over a year, when I had to move and give them away to someone with a bigger tank).

Hi and thanks,

They have been in the tank together for about a month. The first two I had for maybe 4 or 5 days and then got the second two due to fighting. I hoped two would pair up, that's why I got them all in their together. They have all been mellow until today. I have another 29g and am working on getting a 55g for next summer so I figured everybody would be ok till then. I just hate to see the two smaller ones hiding. :(

It's hard at first. You see them chasing and it looks like they are getting hurt etc. Also, 29G tank can hold more than 3 angels (non adults) fine. Please keep us updated. I have learned, with Angels, they are much stronger than people seem to give them credit. My first tank and angel (who I have almost one year now), he was in the tank during the cycling and lived thru it FINE. No diseases, or issues of any kind. Most forums told me he would not make it passed the first few weeks (I did not want to return him). They were wrong, but I would never use a Angel to cycle again. They are beautiful and strong fish indeed. :D

P.S. I was a newbie...but the Angel fish was the only one of his kind when I bought him (In the tank at my LFS at the time). German Blusher and I have yet to find anymore around my area.

I'm such a whimp with my fish. Amazing that an angel survived cycling, they look so delicate.

indeed angels are very delicate.

^that is just horriable, keeping angels in a 10 gallon, unless its for a VERY short period of time is just plain stupid... i am in no way calling you stupid.. dont want to start a fight here

But yes it is a general rule for a reason. It is a very good rule. Angels can get up to a foot in height. And love high tanks.

Anyways, yes i would take out atleast 2 of the angels.
GOOD LUCK!

would you take them out because they are fighting or because of the tank size? they are pretty small right now and ofcourse would go into the other 29g or bigger when they get a bit older.
