Hi everyone, im kinda new on here and hav'nt posted before... My tank is 120ltr... in it i have 2 angel fish,2 gouramies,3 silver sharks,3 neons and an algae eater.. :fish: All is well with my tank, the fish get on fine together and i manage to keep the tank algae free..just recently 1 of my angel fish has been acting weird (chasing the other fish, nipping them also hanging around the filter as though its guarding it) !! Im just wondering if she is due to lay eggs but im not sure. There is no eggs in the tank at the moment..If anyone could help me out i would be grateful.. :D maybe she is just turning into a bully.. :flex:
THANKYOU

:yahoo: well just looked back into fish tank and she is laying eggs the now.. on the filter.. the only prob is i dont know if my other angel is male or female!! How can i tell..anyone tell me pleaseeee ?? :fish:

Well first... angels are NW cichlids so post any further questions about them there.... but anyways, an easy way to tell if there is a pair is look at the eggs....

If they are white, then they are unfertilized and it's just the female laying eggs as instinct tells her to do.... if they are yellow to brown then they are fertilized and you do indeed have a pair :good:

Word of note too, your tank is quite small for the fish you have. The bala's get big, the tank would be fine for the angels if they were alone, the gourami's can be aggressive to anything that moves, and from what I've heard, neon make good snacks for Angels when they reach adulthood. Also, is the algae eater a chinese algae eater? Cause they will cause problems through aggression when they grow towards adulthood as well. If it's a pleco then you prob have a common like most people and these will get way too big for the tank.

Sorry to go on a rant there... I'm sure your aware of most of this but just giving you a headsup if problems begin to arise in the future. :D

Thanks ox for the info ..i will check the forums to do with nw cichlids.. :good: The angel thats laying the eggs is quite big and never goes near the neons.. the other angel is still small.. 1 of my gouramis hides away alot (shows little aggresion) the other is huge and is fine with other fish..just noticed its trying to eat angels eggs  The algae eater is yellowy/golden colour not sure what type!! What size of tank do you think is suitable for the fish that i have..in litres please??

well depending on the type of gourami's they are.... for dwarfs I would say you could have them all in 55G which is about 200L. thats a good base size I think...gives the angels plenty of room to roam as if they are breeding they might become very aggressive as other NW cichlids do.

If your gourami's are not dwarfs then maybe wanna go with a 75G (bout 275L)

EDIT: Duh... sorry, i don;t know why I forgot to say.... Bala's grow to about 12 to 14" and since are shoaling need around 120G (450L) atleast for a shoal.... so they are prob fine for now, but when they grow to about 6" or 8" (15cm to 20cm) then prob time to trade them in
