Hi there

I have an angel who's suffered from fin rot recently. I had him in a hospital tank for 2 weeks, and I used Tetra Medica Fungistop, as ESHA 2000 had not worked. He healed almost completely (no obvious fungus, just a scruffy edged tail that was growing back) so I put him back in the large tank with his mate. Over the last few weeks both this fish and the female have developed a strange habit of sitting on the bottom of the tank. I've posted about this in tropical chit chat and wilder suggested it may be an internal bacteria problem. I bought the medicine on saturday, but when i got home I was told they hadn't done it at all throughout the day, and I kept my eye on them yesterday, and last night, and they look just like their old selves - and there was no lying on the bottom! I have people keeping their eyes on them today - if it happes again I will treat them.

However...

The male has developed a ragged fin again on his left side. over the last week. I teated again with Tetra Medica Fungistop which hasn't worked this time (wilder suggested he's now immune as it's been used so much). This morning I noticed a split along the length of his tail, from the end of the veil to within 2cm of his body.

I'm at a loss now - the water quality is good - p.h 7.0, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 40 (think this is due to excess food contaminating the water - cutting this down). They are breeding a lot, and are agressive towards each other when they breed, so I guess damage is occuring that way, but I really need to know how to rid him of fungus for good - his left fin now has cotton wool like growths on it. Plus his tail split is very worrying.

Is there another good med? Should I hospitalise him?

Please help!

Hi again

He's no better - can anyone recommend a specific med? I've read all over the site and can see people recommending all different kinds of things... Is any one medicine better than another? Maybe the 'silver' med I've read about?

Please help!
