Hi all,

I am a little worried about my male angel. He is quite large (about 6"nose to the base of his tail) and managed to get himself stuck behind his spawning slate last night and again this morning. The slate was resting up against the side of the tank with just enough room for him to get back there to try to rescue some wigglers that had fallen behind.

Either in the process of going behind the slate or while trying to get out from behind it he has managed to scratch his eyes quite badly. I have since repositioned the slate in such a way that he can get behind it no problem now. I didn't last night because I didn't want to disturb the wigglers that were on it. It doesn't appear to be affecting his vision in any way. He also appears to have injured one of his pectoral fins. He is keeping it at his side for the most part and it seems to look a little cloudy.

My question is this, is there anything I should do that will encourage healing? Could he possibly have damaged his eyes permanently? Last night they were looking kind of cloudy, but today it looks like an entire layer has been scratched off on one eye, the other one looks normal again.

He is currently in a 55G with a female angel, 6 boesmani rainbows, one m. praecox, one 3 spot gourami and a few oto's. The water parameters are excellent, the tank is heavily planted and has been up and running for about a year. My normal maintenance schedule is a 20-25% water change weekly with a good gravel vacuum. Should I up the water changes? Maybe add some melafix? Or just let it heal on it's own?

If water quality is good it should heal on it's own, but melafix if you are worried.
