I have a 16G (US) tank with one medium Angel and three Corydoras.

The tank has some brown slime/algae that keeps resurfacing. I currently have a couple of Ottos in my other tank.

Can I switch them over to this tank? Or will they become bite-sized treats for my Angel?

The water parameters are the same... just want to know if the Ottos would be in danger.

make certain that the oto gets enough to eat or else he'll start on your angel! i've seen a hungry oto chase around gouramis before in an LFS.

Ottos don't eat other fish and are one of the most peaceful fish I have every had the joy to own. I don't think they're like plecos as well, attaching themselves to fish and destorying their slime coat. Overall, yea, you could keep 5-6 ottos in there. However, you're gonna have to move the angel.

noooo... they will too attach and eat off the slime coat if they aren't well fed. pretty much any sucker fish will eat slime; it just varies on how hungry they have to get before they'll try.

i've seen it in two or three different chainstores. they just don't feed enough and boom! when oto's attack. poor starving fish...

Well. ive heard of a few such cases where straving otos have been known to eat slim coats, so beware, and just make sure they have enouf to eat.

That surely isnt a reason not to get otos. Just make sure they arnt hungry.

por supuesto! i'd hate to think i gave the impression that oto's are bad little fish. oto's are sweet, gentle, mildly neurotic little fish.

just save time, buy algae wafers and make certain that they are eating the slime of your walls and not off your angels. the first one you see swin *towards* an angel, start using the wafers.

Thanks for everyone's replies so far.

The Ottos are currently in another tank with some Neons and a Dwarf Gourami. The Ottos completely cleaned out my brown slime from the entire tank, which is great. I make sure to drop a few sinking wafers in that tank as well (for the Gourami)... but I see the Ottos eating them as well. So I don't think my Ottos are not going to be fed enough that they will attack my other fish.

I'm just curious... why is my 16G tank too small for one Angel? The Angel is already medium sized and has plenty of room to grow and swim. He doesn't have any other fish to compete for territory with either. I perform weekly water changes as well.

I've owned many other fish for a few years now... but this is my first Angel. Guess I'm just stumped on the responses to move him.

because the angel is such a vertical fish, its needs are different from most. it is generally reccommended that you keep angels in tall tanks -- which doesn't apply to most 16 gallons.

but you can only do what you can do :/

Well... what is the minimum tank height for an Angel. My tank (16G US) is 18" tall. Is that roomy enough for one Angel?

I don't want to seem like a monster for mistreating a fish... but it definitely looks as though this ONE fish has plenty of room to move/grow.

Otos shouldnt get hungrey because they should go into a mature tank anyways or else they will die.
