Would angels get along with dwarf gouramis? Platys? Larger tetras, such as congo tetras?

I would like to add some more fish to my large angel tank, and make it more of a community tank instead of just angels.

Also, I started breeding guppies to use as live foods for my oscar, but will the angels like the young guppies too?

Angels and dwarf gouramis get mixed reviews. I did some research on this because I was interested in getting a couple gouramis. Some sources I found said dwarf gouramis and angels would be just fine, others said it was a recipe for disaster. Since my lfs is good about taking fish back if they don't work out, I decided to try it. I don't remember how many angels I had at the time, maybe just 1, but I had 2 dwarf gouramis as well (46g tank) and they got along just fine.

So, if your lfs will take fish back, you can try it and see if your fish have the right temperaments for it.

I don't know about platies and congo tetras though...

My angels don't eat live food, but I'm sure some do - like little neons :p

I have one (lge) angel in a 72 gall with
moustached danios, bengal danios, giant danios,
danio hikari, corys and a selection of botias

I tried putting in small fish like WCMMs and gold tetras but the angel
just chased them all the time.

The angels will do fine with platys, but if the platys start to breed you will never see any fry. Angels will eat guppy fry too. Congo tetras should work ok, unles the angels start to pair up. Mating angels can get as aggressive as any other cichlid, and the tetras, being a bit on the shy side, may get a bit stressed by this. If the angels are larger they will probably hold their own with the dwarf gouramis, but like parker313 stated, make sure your lfs is cool with taking them back, just in case.

I've bred angels before and find them to be not overly agressive. Larger tetras do fine with them as they are faster and if an angel gets in a bullying mood they can usually escape them with ease. I have never kept them with dwarf gourami's I have kept them with a pearl gourami however. They rarely came to blows this was because i provided lots of hideing places and stratigically placed plants driftwood and rocks to create natural breaks in line of site. This cut down on agression because the angel would stop chaseing as soon as it stopped seing the offender.

Angel will eat guppy fry. I had first had experience. the guppys tail was poking out the breeding trap and the angel pulled it though and ate it

Welcome angeleel! Posting water test results would help direct other members towards a possible solution. What size tank, how long has the tank been running, water temp, and tankmates are all good to know also. How long have you had the fish, and have they been eating?
