My koi angel has been acting weird tonight. charging up and down the tank, grabbing imagniary bits of food from the surface and attacking any other fish that goes near him/her. Also attacking his/her own reflection. It's normally quite easy going, this is totally out of character. The only thing I can think that it's a female and she's spawned and if guarding her eggs, but I don't if it is a female and she's the only angel in the tank, can or would a sole angel spawn?

Anyone have any other explanations?

are there any signs of any external parasite or signs of any fin rot/damage? The darting to the top could be for oxygen and is it possible that the drting/agression is mixed with scraping alongside something? Its not a spawning if its on its own and that kind of aggression would not normally be shown outside of pairing/spawning. Is it an adult angel? If you can rule out any illness, possibly introduce another angel for company?

Thanks for the reply. The behaviour has went back to normal, def no signs of scraping on anything. Weird, maybe he was just p'eed off at something! Unfortunately I've no room for another fish since it's partner died (which was a bala shark, strange but true, they never mated obviously, but were very close). I'll keep an eye on it anyway. Tahnks!
