Angel Spawn

congrats, you may find the ones in the gravel will be ok, just depends if the other tankmates get to them

Came home from school and found that mom decided on a new spot for the developing eggs, glad she did too she was having a real hard time sticking them to the silicone. She chose an anuduis leaf higher up in the tank so far none of the other fish have gotten close.

Funny sight though, she was attempting a rescue of one of the eggs that fell off the leaf into the plant. Jammed herself in so far she couldn't move, i was pretty worried and was about to reach in when dad came up and began prodding at her. Three or four times he did it and she bolted out, don't know if it was cause of the dad or just freaked. It was neat seeing him act so maternally. Felt really bad though she seemed pretty shaken up. Not to long after she spit out the egg onto the leaf. Mission Complete!

How is your spawn going Shaz?

lol they are very protective of there young, mine are still on the leaf jumping about on it, done a water change yesterday but only managed 15% due to where the eggs were. dreading doing it now there are actually jumping around.

do you even have a breeding trap you can put the fry into, not sure if this would help but come the fry free swimming the parents won't be able to protect them as much

Breeding trap with angel fry is a no go, the adults will suck them through the sides if they can, and the fry need more space to swim.

Use a separate tank for growing out the fry, if the adults get spooked, or even if they don't they may decide it's time to eat the swimmers.

think I might remove my adults once the fry are free swimming, think there main job of protecting them will be over by then

They'll continue to protect them, just like any other cichlid protects fry. Consider moving the fry once they start to get towards pea body size.

Update: The eyes can now clearly be seen and the tails. picked up brine shrimp eggs to start the hatching today. Hopefully they last long enough to eat. Tetras haven't made any advances. Seperate tank still isn't cycled like i was hoping. But mom and dad are doing really good fanning still and grabbing falling fry.

I'm really enjoying watching the parents care for the fry. Dad chased me accross the tank lol when i was taking a look at the fry in their corner; i had looked real close to see the fry progress and he swam right up, was pretty Intimidating and so i backed up and walked past the tank. He chased me till i was out of sight.

Very impressive those fish. I have a new appreciation for Angelfish.

yeah think our fry must be at the same stage, I wasn't looking properly when I was doing a water change and got a full on attack from him

The fry in my tank have been put near the top of the tank in the corner so it makes it difficult to do water changes. I tried to do one at the other end of the tank but feared bringing the water level down too far so it wasn't a very substantial change . Noticed some fry swimming off the corner, Dad kept grabbing them and spitting them back into corner. Overprotective dad wont let the kids swim on their own yet :p

Was wondering if anyone could identify what type of angel these are. I bought them as marble angels but other than that i dont really know and i would really like to know. I've taken more pics so that there are better veiws of fins and such.

Bad news today! :(

Angels went absolutly crazy today trashing the other fish. They had moved the fry to the other side of the tank and into the tetra territory and were going crazy. In fear of losing all the babies and the tetras. I began preparing the 35G for the pair. Babies have been removed into a 5G tank for now. They will move in with mom and dad as soon as tank is ready. I have to clone it.

Wish me luck :S ill need it. Had to drop $90 to get new set up equipment

check with the more experienced breeders hun, but I'd be wary of putting the babies back with there parents as they may now see them as food and not there young. personally I'd raise the fry seperate now

Thats whats going on right now, fry are in a separate tank with sponge filter. Found the current too strong so i will have to refrain from using it for now.

just get a splitter valve or whatever its called and release some pressure off the spare valve
