I am seeking to help my nextdoor neighbour with her Angels

Now according to a pro thats see her, her two fully grown angels kiss each other from time to time, but from what i saw on the numerous times, was far from kissing

Now i know angels get territoral, and that sometimes they will nip at each other other stuff, but what i saw was pure agrression, i think if they had teeth, there would be HUGE chunks missing all other the both of her angels, and the sheer bite they make at each other i would not class kissing, for i have three angels and even they dont act like the two she has

So here my query, do angels actually kiss, and also what should my neighbiour do about this problem she has if it is a problem?

Liplocking is probably what he's referring to. This can be nothing to worry about, or a probem. When cichlids like angels are fairly closely matched, and niether will back down, it will come down to a physical fight - liplocking. It's not a problem unless it's happening too often - in which case she should intervene -even with no injuries, that kind of tension in the tank is best avoided. 2 males, 2 females, and even pairs will practice this display of aggression.

What size tank are they in? If the tank is too small, they may not be able to agreeably set up their own territories...

Well i would say it happens at least something like every 30 minutes, sometimes they will wim side by side (Of which my angels do all the time) but then they will cross paths and then, as you said would liplock with each other, and it looks very violent to me, as if i would lose my hand if i stuck it between them, i mean you watch them and at the same time physically feeling each hit they blow to each other, rather awful to watch, and i do hope *Fingers crossed* none of my angels do that

She is thinking about giving one to Rob (The block who owns chiltern aquatics and a friend of our, who also gave her these angels) giving him back one and exchanging it for another, but the thing is, i think that will be more difficult han she thinks since the size angels she has got, well i have never seen angels that big before...

I have a breeding pair that does that every time I turn on the light. Lip locking is common when they pair up. If they generally get along, occasionally tusseling, you probably have a pair. Sometimes pairs can get pretty brutal with each other. They test to see if the other is strong enough, thus worthy of spawning with.

If one is constantly chasing the other into a far corner, or hidden area of the tank, they probably are not a pair. Either way, keep an eye on them. Unpaired angels have killed other angels, even 1 out of a pair can get a nasty streak & kill it's mate. I would keep a divider handy to be safe.

Well i have given my nextdoor neighbour the URL to this forum, because i believe she would get some really good advice from here...

By the way, my nextdoor neighbour, well i am best mates with her son, but i love going over there and once in a while looking at her tank, because it is larger than mine and she has some impressive fish in her tank, though it lloks like her blood finned tetra has come down with a serious case of drosy, to which i feel sorry for it...

Well anyhow, this has helped me too, though i wonder, i have three angels myself, now you got one thats a veiltail, one a half breed between a veiltail and a normal marble nd then you have my double black velvet angel, now my half breed angel, she gets picked on by the other two normally when being fed, however all three willswim around the tank side by side all fine, but i was wondering, the other two, the veiltail and the double black velvet, they are normal very close to one another, they dont fight one bit, i was wondering if they are pairing off themselves, or if my half breed might be of a oppsite sex to them that they might breed with, because i am hoping with all my heart to get a breeding pair, however at the same time avoiding over stocking, i did have another angel which i loved very much, since you can see him in my sig, but he passed away just before i got the other three, which you can see from the pic in my photo...

I used to try and avoid angels, but now i cant begin to think why i did that apart from them beng so expensive, because they are such lovely fish, and very, VERY smart...

But do you guys think i have a chance at getting a breeding pair?

as said before angels can be quite territorial towards other angels, but this could also be a sign of courting. Your neighbor should keep a close eye on these fish :D
